Harvey to DL with a partially torn UCL.
Poor Mets.
Wow, what is the timeframe for a return on that? Is this something that requires surgery?
Natural Immunity Croc
Yes. TJ surgery repairs or replaces a torn UCL. The timeframe is 12 months.
If it is a partial tear, they can try rest and rehab. Most partial tears eventually require surgery. But there are exceptions. Ervin Santana for example had a partial tear a few years ago, but up until now has not needed TJ surgery.
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe UCL injuries require Tommy John.
It seems more and more pitchers are having to have TJS these days than in the past. Is the pitch counts actually hurting them?
Who knows? Could be pitch counts? Could be having to throw three-four different types of pitches?
This is horrible news. I won't mind seeing hte Mets lose but the game is taking a big hit when you take out one of the top 5 pitchers.

There was a reason youngsters were not allowed to throw breaking balls until I guess money became so overwhelming.
Interesting to compare Harvey versus Teheran pitch counts:
Under 100 pitches Harvey 8 Teheran 17
100-109 pitches Harvey 9 games Teheran 6
110-119 Harvey 7 Teheran 1
Over 120 Harvey 2 Teheran 1
I'm surprised how hard they worked this kid.
Fredi Gonzalez 1 Terry Collins 0 on this comparison.
Especially when you consider which guy is pitching for a contending team and which guy is pitching for a non-contender.
I'm not a fan of hard pitch counts. Some guys should be allowed to pitch more some guys should be monitored more. For example I'd use the kid gloves more for Julio than I would for Minor.

Weren't they going to shut him down soon too? Really sucks for them.
Any time a guy has an arm injury, I just assume we won't see them again for a year +. Feel bad for the Mets and Matt Harvey. It just sucks how frequent guys need surgery on their pitching arms and how long it takes for the body to recover.
