Since the outbreak has been confined to the Marlins thus far, there’s been no serious discussion at this point about pausing/suspending the season. Marlins-Orioles game tonight is canceled and Phillies-Yankees game may well be canceled as well. But that’s it to this point.

Marlins have to forfeit with their entire team on the DL.

To be fair the Marlins can just replace their starters with minor league players and there will hardly be a difference.

This will be an interesting anecdote to see how easily it spreads from one team to the other as opposed to within a team.

Some of the bigger names on the Marlins tested positive. I don’t name names without consent.

the players rejected a bubble idea. what else can really be done? there were precautions taken and still 14 players/staff on the Marlins have caught it.

this is the problem. this is part of the reason this had a slim chance of working.

What does sports media's virtue signalling have to do with what you wrote?

Is this really a place for politics? Before you call me a lib many of the people here can vouch that I'm not one.

Media could expose parts of the plan and push players and MLB to make the plan better. They'd rather exposed the plan and push MLB to quit. At least that's how it seems to me. How is it their responsibility? I mean it's directly related to their careers as being baseball writers.

The players didn't reject a bubble, they rejected an extremely strict bubble. Obvious ways to enhance the bubble would be to implement fines for players going to certain places, etc. Just simple brainstorming stuff.
    thank you weso1!

i believe suggestions have been made.
the only undeniably safe suggestion is not playing.
players would have to be in a strict bubble for months. they're trying to play more games than the NBA. it's apples and oranges.

it's asinine to blame the media for the MLB's poor plan. i know it's all the rage right now to pin everything on media, but it's really quite silly.

What does politics have to do with the sports media virtue signaling?

Someone asked why sports media is actively rooting against sports. Virtue signalling is why.

Not sure what I'm missing here.

Sports media, along with all media, and anyone who is expressing care and human compassion for wearing a mask and trying to limit the spread of the virus through safe measures, is rooting for health. If a sports season is cancelled in the process, oh well. Health is a lot more important than anything else. Why people struggle with this concept and turn it into a political issue is beyond me.

I believe the broadcasting platforms desperately wanted a season. I'm curious to see what the viewership/listenership numbers were over the opening weekend. There's a dearth of programming and having at least partial broadcast contracts are very helpful in filling that void and getting some revenue coming in to those outfits.

I don't know if those covering the teams were that adamant except it gives them something to cover and keeps them away from being furloughed.

But I agree that there was probably going to be an outbreak of sorts and MLB didn't have a plan in place to deal with that likelihood.

they aren't "rooting against sports." that interpretation of what's going on is so simple and childish - not that i'm surprised.
looking at the situation objectively, it's easy to see why some in the media are questioning how safe and worth it this all is. it's a reasonable response. i watched every single pitch this weekend and multiple other games. i'm not "rooting against sports" - i want them to happen badly. that doesn't mean i don't find MLB's plan ill-advised and likely to fail.

plenty of sports media are supportive of the NBA's plan, which is so far working despite the boneheads leaving to go to the club. it has nothing to do with "vIrTuE SiGnaLiNg" and everything to do with practicality and safety.

i hope they can get this under control and move ahead and play all the games. i just doubt it.

First, it's not the only undeniable safe suggestion. Players could certainly be less safe if they didn't play. The second part is you just arguing with something in your own mind. I never pinned everything on the media. That's just something it sounds like you need to work out.

"why isn't the media doing xyz?????????"
you need to work that out in your own mind, as they have nothing to do with the MLB's plan.
