We are raising people that can't emotionally cope with real life, and have to freak out and commit crimes to act out.
If that is the argument I agree. We are raising soft, babies that are taught life is fair and can't handle rejection. That said, I wonder why that is all of a sudden...HMMMM...whats changed?

It wasn't really a starting. Columbine was just the biggest one at the time

I mean more famously there was the University of Texas Tower shooter. But ultimately there's a number of reasons these things persist. Stigmatism against research into mental health and treatment of said mental health issues. Unintentional media glorification of the shooters. And a handful of other things (US Culture that glorifies violence while condemning sex and love is a big one)

My high school experience was similar to yours, I doubt there was a single day that I didn't have a gun in plain sight in my truck.
My favorite theory for what changed is that fighting is no longer allowed. We fought and got ISS, OSS for repeat offenses, and that was all if a staff member actually got to break it up. Now schools call the police and the kids get handcuffed and hauled away. That's a huge pressure relief valve that just doesn't exist anymore.

I couldn't feel more pity for the parents. I understand that in their grief they would lose logical thought. It's excusable for them to do so. But it's not for everyone else. A person murdered those kids. Not the piece of black metal and plastic that scare people like you so much. A person.

To me there's an easy compromise no one wants to talk about, minimum sentencing escalations. Commit a robbery with a gun or even just the perception of a gun (sticking your finger in your pocket and acting like you're armed) has a higher minimum sentencing than other crimes. Kill someone with a gun, higher minimum sentencing. That would get people to at least hopefully think twice before choosing to bring a gun into a crime. And include crimes for gun negligence. For example, in many states, you can get in trouble if your kids steal your booze and bring it to a party. Why aren't there similar things with firearms. We live in an era where we have smart phones, cars that can sense their surroundings, etc. why can't we GPS track guns? Why can't you area lock guns? Why can't you pin lock a trigger? I could go on. My grandfather was a huge hunter, none of his kids ever got their hands on his guns because he locked them up and told them to never touch them.

I support any measures that penalizes the people who are committing crimes while holding a gun for sure.
No question about it.

I agree with holding people responsible for not securing their guns. Giving tyrants a way to disable it electronically is not something I could support, especially after seeing the totalitarian measures of the past couple of years.

I'm very happy that this woman* had a gun and used it.
