MBS's elevation was applauded by the Trump admin, but it seems a stretch to say that they paved the way for it...though they've certainly seemed to be hand-in-glove since.
We've co-signed on the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and his "anti-corruption" shakedown in exchange for what, exactly? I guess we'll see, but Kushner's involvement doesn't seem terribly comforting. Dude is a born mark.
It's nigh impossible to imagine MBS executing a coup d'état as ballsy as the one he pulled off without some pretty explicit backing/promises from the United States.
And of course there's the very public and very matching timeline.

I'm just not sure many in this board will ever identify /acknowledge/ give credit to this administration ever.
For some insane stupid reason we supported Iran for the last 8 years. About as poor of a play as could be made. I refuse to believe the people running this country are stupid so they had to know this would happen.
