I watched 12 Years.
What a depressing movie. No doubt the performances were fantastic and Fassbinder should get an Oscar for that performance for how brutal he was.
THe movie did it's job, which was symbolize how hopeless it was to be not only a slave but a black person in the South in those times. The hopelessness. Solomon was the strongest person there for a long time, he was able to help keep his stuff together until finally he realized he was truly trapped in hell and would never see his family again.

Saw The Killing of a Chinese Bookie at the cinema last Wednesday; phenomenal direction and a really transcendent performance by Ben Gazzara.
"For all his tattooings he was on the whole a clean, comely looking cannibal."
Criterion 50% sale is at Barnes and Noble until 12/2
The 30% off coupon is this weekend, already started e-mailing out.
So for most Criterions at 39.99...
-50% off sale - $19.99, -30% off = 13.99 , -10% B&N membership = $12.59
There's also rumored to be a 40% off black friday coupon, so possibly $11 criterions!
On Sunday I bought: Frances Ha, La Notte, Spy Who Came in From Cold, Eyes without a Face, City Lights, The Univited (1944), Autumn Sonata
If the 40% off coupon is true and I can stack it with the 50% off sale, I'm going bonkers this weekend.

Just watched As I Lay Dying and loved it. Not the kind of film most folks can sit through but being a longtime Faulkner fan I had to. Very impressive directing job by James Franco and Tim Blake Nelson may get some serious recognition for his role of the toothless father. He deserves it.
Any bond fans? Amazon has the complete Bond DVD set (23 DVDs including sky fall) for $99 today. Believe it might be Saturday only. That's a good deal

Fox looking to create their own Marvel Universe involving the X-Men/Fantastic Four. I really wish all the Marvel properties could be combined into one single universe, but with different studios owning the rights to the movies it doesn't look good.
I didn't read past the spoiler alert on this page, but they claim to breakdown how Apocalypse will be involved in the 2014 X-Men movie. I'd rather wait until the movie to find out how it happens, but some people just have to know right now.

I know Spike Lee's remake of "OldBoy" is getting crushed by most critics but I enjoyed it...probably wouldn't have picked Brolin but I thought the movie as a whole was rather good.

They're not actually merging it. They're just acknowledging they exist in the same universe because FOX owns the film rights to both franchises.
I did recently read that Marvel reacquired Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and I believe Blade from FOX, Sony, and New Line Cinemas respectively.
