Because of mutations. Several people have tried to explain that to you, including myself. We've already seen changes in the spike protein. That's a problem. We need herd immunity before the winter, but it won't happen because people who don't understand this think that the summer drop and the lifting of restrictions means they are safe and don't need to get vaccinated, so they aren't. Hopefully we still get there, but it seems less likely by the day.

What we have seen is the many mutations this far are not bypassing prior immunity.
So again, it’s these low probability events like short lasting immunity that you base your directives on the rest of the population. Don’t push your fear on others.
Until we actually see a mutation that moves past immunity then there is absolutely no sense in asking healthy people to take a vaccine if they don’t want to.

Not for someone who understands herd immunity. We were never going to get there without vaccines. While I think the lockdown could've been handled better, I think anything to possibly slow down the rate of mutation was overall a reasonable decision. Ultimately, it was only 3 months, and it has been over for practically a year. If you were right, we would already have herd immunity. We don't. Another bonus to the lockdown and masks is the absolute asskicking we gave the flu this past year.
You could absolutely get to her immunity which is in essence an extremely low transmission rate as there are fewer uninflected hosts. The idea should have always been to make sure as many low risk people got infected so the high risk could live their lives after a few months.
The whole point of obtaining herd immunity was to protect the at risk. Now we have a way to protect them without herd immunity.
So aside from your completely non scientific fear of variants tell me why should we strive for herd immunity?
