That reads like sarcasm. Seems to me that Renteria was MVP of the 2010 World Series for SF, unless they rescended for some reason. But I'll accept that Aybar would be better seen as somewhere between Gonzalez and Renteria, but his defense does not suck. Since the Braves figure to have something besides the statue-like Olivera at third, I am very comfortable with the defensive aspect of this.

There is no doubt we now have a very strong group of pitching prospects. I like the ones we've drafted (Allard, Soroka, Sims and a couple other under-the-radar types) quite a bit. Among the ones we've traded for, Wisler and Newcomb are the ones I like (with Gant being the best of the sleeper candidates).
Lucas Sims is very close to being a big league pitcher, so we're growing some of our own. Allard; I can't wait. He might be better than the bunch.

Wisler has already had a lot of his growing pains. Remember that he won his last three decisions in 2015, capping it with that beauty against the Cardinals.

Saying "Think Edgar Renteria" rather conjures up the guy we saw in Atlanta, who didn't get to much at SS but raked like a madman. Do you think Aybar compares more favorably with prime Edgar or eroded Edgar.

Aybar is fine. He's a perfectly adequate big league SS. I'm a little impatient with hearing him described as more, from Coppy on down.

My question is, is he going to catch ex-Bravesitis if we flip him before he suits up?

My rule of thumb is, he's not a Brave until Picture Day.

Shanks is a moron who does nothing to but defend whatever the Braves do.

I'm a fan of neither him nor his writing style. 2000 words, beating the reader about the head with a simple idea that any fan with half a brain already knows. Acquiring pitching prospects for trades. Ya think??? No humor, irony or unexpected phrases, though plenty of preachiness. Either he reads at a 12 year old level or he thinks his readers do.

    LOL

“We’re a team that’s poised to get better in 2016. We’re unhappy with our performance in 2015. That said, Fredi Gonzalez did a great job – especially in the first half of the season – of doing more with less. At 42-42, we were a fun, overachieving team. It was a tough end to the season, but out of that adversity is some opportunity.
“We try to give Fredi everything he would want in terms of game preparation. We have members of our analytics department devoted specifically to providing him with in-game strategy information and probabilities. But at the end of the day, Fredi is going to make the calls. He’s going to use his gut, for better or for worse. Fredi won 96 games for us in 2013. He’s been one of the winningest managers since taking over the Braves. We trust Fredi.”

I don't disagree with much of what he said except for the Fredi comments.

I've wondered if this is a precursor move on a play for Javier Baez or Jurickson Profar. Play them at 2B with Jace until Aybar is traded and then move them to SS until Albies is ready.

I would love to grab one of them but not getting my hopes up. I'm very interested in bringing back a former braves prospect in Brandon Drury. Just read a rumor he could be shopped for pitching. Would love to plug him into 3B on opening day next year

Just listened to a little of Shanks' radio show. Full-on trash Freeman mode. Not worth paying him $20 million a year starting in 2017. The ex-Bravesitis has started before the dude is even traded.

Gonna be great when we go back to having a different first baseman every year.

Do any of these front office diaper sniffers realize that uh, once we are ready to compete again, we're actually going to have to pay our talent money to keep them?

Was Shanks the one saying that? Of course he's the guy who wouldn't play Heyward 15 million a year. I just have a horrible feeling the Braves FO is stuck in the 2000's mindset that 100 million in an acceptable payroll and 20 million should only buy you a superstar while the rest of the baseball world is living in reality with how contracts are now structured.

Yes. He and his little cohort. To paraphrase them: Freeman will give you a .285 batting average and 20-25 homers. That isn't worth the $20 million. He's not Chipper Jones. Maybe not someone you need to be the face of the franchise.

Of course, he's all supportive of getting Hector Olivera, who likely won't even do that, in exchange for one of those young pitchers he loves so much, because the front office came up with it, so it must be a good idea.

Bill Shanks isn't worthy of a radio show. He's not even a guy worthy of a rock and chisel. I'd package him and Chip in exchange for a steaming pile of Kerry Ligtenberg's poo....IMO there's more value there.
