I don't think so. It's possible bus access could improve, but definitely not a train for quite some time. Cobb shut that down years ago, and it would take significant changes to get it done and even then it would take a long time to get done if they decided to do it.

It will happen the year after the Braves have the promised Top 10 payroll.

This. The Metro Atlanta suburbs are very resistant to the idea of allowing MARTA rail service into their counties. Unlike many major cities, there's a very big socioeconomic factor where public transit is concerned. There's also maybe a lingering racial issue there too. Whatever the motives, suburban officials believe that allowing MARTA rail service into their counties will bring lots of crime with it.

There's also the fact that MARTA service isn't all that extensive compared to other major cities. So you have to deal with a degree of inconvenience when using it as it often wont take you where you need to go.

This has become kind of a self-perpetuating problem for Atlanta. MARTA isn't going to attract new riders without expanding the service but can't expand the service without attracting new riders.

I think the odds are better for the Braves to get another new stadium before MARTA rail service extends to the current park.

It's not a major deal for me bc I only attend 3-5 games a season. I do like to stay downtown when I come and don't like to drive to the games. It'd be cool if I didn't have to pay $20-25 1 way for an Uber

Yep. He has no clue. Might have made some good points but putting that in the middle of it was just so off in his argument that it ruined the rest of his post, for me anyway.

Exactly. If I know one thing about Atlanta, and all southern cities, it's that there is zero racism influencing public policy.

As a white male, I am positive I'm correct when I say racism is dead...especially in the South.

Are you saying that race isn't an issue in fight by Atlanta suburbs to keep MARTA rail out?

I think the biggest issue is the perception that MARTA will bring poor people and crime into the area. However, I think it's probably a little blind to ignore that for some, the fact that the majority of MARTA's ridership is made of up minorities is an issue. It's less explicit than it once was but it's probably still an undercurrent.

To be fair, racism is just as prevalent in Northern or Western states, despite what Hollywood would have you believe. And in some areas (Boston, Detroit, Cincinnati for example) it's even even worse.

Yeah that is the perception - I have talked to people here who feel that way. For some reason they think that black people will rob their house and then ride the train home with that 55" TV

Idk, I have lived in Louisville, Bloomington, In, Cincinnati, Portland, Spokane, and Oxford, MS. I can say without question MS was the most prejudiced place I have lived.

it's certainly everywhere, but i think "just as prevalent" is a little far.

Detroit? Philadelphia? Watts? Chicago? Rodney king? Baltimore? New York?

Majority of major race riots happened in the north.

I live in SC. We had the confederate flag flying from our state house, We had an officer shoot a unarmed fleeing black man, and a disturbed insane person commit mass murder in a black church, all within the same time period. Not one riot, not one overturned car nor did one shop have a broken window happen as an effect. No real riots due to the Trayvon martin verdict either.

If racism is so worse in the south why do major riots only take place in the north?
