Not even talking extensions with either JUpton or Heyward is stupid.

Yes, both are FA's but doesnt mean they wont re-up.

With the new stadium, they need to re-sign one of them long-term.

Maybe the Braves believe since they are moving out of the inner city that they no longer need players like Upton and Heyward. Freeman and Kimbrel will look better on those billboards if you know what I mean...

Am I the only one who thinks Gattis in the outfield is a bad idea?

So when Gattis is running around LF misplaying balls, no one has the right to complain about his defense because that's not important at all. I'm sure our pitchers will understand.

Listen, when Gattis was thrusted into LF in 2013, he hadn't played out there. Give him a full spring training out there and some off season work, can he really be worse than Matt Holiday is out there. I'd take his bat. Because with JUp likely to be traded, you need some pop in the lineup.

An un-athletic catcher running around the OF is never a good thing. I'd rather have his bat at catcher with Upton and Heyward's bat in the OF. We're going to need more than "some pop" if your going to have offensive holes at catcher, third base and shortstop. Oh and the severe offensive drop off from whoever is asked to replace Upton and Heyward.

While Avila would be a great LHed half of a platoon at C (career 792 OPS vs RHers), his acquisition makes little sense for the Braves. If Gattis is moved to LF so CB can start at C, why would they bring in another C that would relegate CB to the bench most of the time?

Maybe CB is the one being traded? An OF of Gattis/Heyward/Justin and Avila catching?

I like Gattis a lot more at catcher than LF, but I also like the idea of Gattis getting 550 ABs.

I not particularly a fan of Gattis in the OF, but he looks like a gazelle when compared to Josh Willingham.

Lohse and Gallardo both in year before FA defeat the purpose IMO.

I agree I don't see the Braves paying 5.4 million for a catcher. They will bring a veteran free agent catcher to back up Bethancourt, possibly Laird again or bringing back David Ross

Not crazy about Gattis in LF, but maybe he could improve over time. If it meant getting BJ the hell out of the lineup and Heyward in CF and Justin in RF, I'd warm to it more. But I'm guessing Jason and/or Justin get traded.
