Minor league velocity reports always seem to be a few mph high. I don't know how our prospects always seem to lose 2-3 mph when they hit the majors as opposed to the scouting reports. If I hear a starter throws 94-95 then.they are usually about 91-93 when they debut.

I think that has more to do with them learning to pitch instead of throw. In the minors good throwers can get people out. As they move up, it sometimes take much better control which can be obtained by reducing velocity and increasing command

I'd say get him out now; very quality start.

I think a lot of the time its because prospect hounds always report a guys max velo, and not what they typically sit at. Lots of guys will touch 95... but really they only pitch at 91-93.

not really applicable to this topic, but didn't know where else to put it.

Jay Groome - 1.1 IP, 7 hits, 9 ER, 3 BB, 1 SO in his only start of the season. Yikes.

He left with injury after that start. I haven't heard any updates on him since.. but I haven't looked either. Just glad we took Anderson over him..

Groome has/had plenty of upside, I'm not trying to say we did the right thing or that Groome would have been a bad pick -- far too early for that. Just saw his line and thought YIKES.

That said, I'm very happy with the early returns we've seen from Anderson.

Sims has a history of getting on streaks where he is incredible (maybe 5-8 starts in a row) and then for some reason then a streak not as well.

Maybe he is getting on one of those streaks. Can only hope.

The damn bullpen is going to come in a blow this game for Sims. I hate that when a kid pitches so well.

Great start by Sims... just what was needed, no walks... ERA down under 3.00, solid strikeout numbers... 5 walks in 3 games, not bad. Would be great if Sims could come back from the dead and get a big part of this team.

Just bring up Adams and see what he can do, it hurts nothing... bring up Kubitza and see what he can do... it hurts nothing.... put Swanson back in AAA to get some confidence back and re learn how to hit a slider. Grow some balls and just do it.

He is only 22. In 3 games he has been great with his only hiccup is given up a HR (3R). Outside of that he has been the best AAA starter.

Many people forget that this is a 22 year old in AAA and have given up on him. While some still hold out hope about Newcomb in his age 24? 25? season? Sims has just been around forever and has flashed too much nasty potential for me to give up on him. If he continues solid work in AAA he should be the first to get a chance

IIRC the issue is that scouts say his FB is very strait with no life on it. It's fast but ppl hit it. And he his other options are not good enough to get ppl off of the fastball.

So much for Adams getting the call.. brought up Blair and Kemp and sent Jackson and Camargo down. I don't get Blair at all.. why not let him stay in AAA and build his confidence/value back.
