Justin Upton is overrated. He is talked about on here like he is damn superstar and he just isn't. I'm not saying that I would just get rid of him and the trade still made sense but he is overrated. I would put him below at least 4 of our current players for extensions:

    Freeman
    Heyward
    Simmons
    Teheran

Then maybe you consider Upton but you could throw guys in like Medlen/Minor and even if Beachy comes back strong.

This series just made me want to let McCann go even more. He continues to be horrible in the stretch run and playoffs every year. Go with Gattis at catcher next year.

Every decision Fredi made was to make sure we were ready for game 5....

    In an elimination game

Justin was our second best hitter and had the 4 highest fWAR on the team. Not to mention he basically singlehandedly carried us in April.

I flat out don't get why you hate him so much.

Watching that game last night, the Dodgers hitters reminded me of the late 90's Yankees. You just knew when they were down late in the game they were going to score, and there wasn't a pitcher around that could stop them. They just had "it".

I don't "hate" any baseball player. Thats just foolish. But, I dispute that Upton is this superstar that we need to have on our team moving forward.

Justin isn't as important and Jason ro Freddie, but we're looking at a guy who struggled for most of the year had a big defensive down season.

Add Simmons to that list and maybe one or two of our pitchers. The biggest value that Upton brings is that he is a potential big righty bat inbetween or two lefties.

Because we paid a steep price to get him, and for what he's getting paid, we were expecting a superstar in return. We didn't get a superstar season, not even an all-star type season. Disappointment.

Justin with a normal defensive season would have posted a 4 WAR season.

And I'm not quite sure if Simmons belongs in that realm yet. If he hits better next year then yeah I would but he's an amazing defender, one of the all-time greats. But defense peaks early so if his bat doesn't improve odds are this is nearly his best season. I think his bat will improve but we have to make decisions on Justin and Jason before Simmons hits arb 1. So even if we extend Simmons now his cost will be low until 2016 since he has 2 years of rookie contracts left.

If Justin had a normal UZR he would have had a WAR around 4, that would make him one of the 40 best players in baseball. Just saying.

JUp was 12th among NL outfielders in WRC+ . . . he certainly could have been better, but it was a good season.

Exactly. He had a great season, not spectacular. But he's hardly overrated unless you expected him to win the MVP.

That's something I think many thought we were getting with Justin, an MVP candidate because that's what he did a few years ago.

It's unrealistic to expect any player to be an MVP Candidate. Even guys like Joey Votto and many others have down years. We traded a few prospects and Prado for Justin and Johnson. Johnson being largely a throw in.

Let's also not ignore that fact that Justin had about 5 weeks of being incredibly hot but for the majority of the season was useless.

Jim Leyritz still working his magic.

In 1991, we just lost one of the greatest WS ever. 1992, we got beat by an overall better team. 1993, you could say we spent ourselves catching the Giants and had nothing left. Finally got over the hump in 1995 and were well on the way in 1996. And then Leyritz.....and it's all been downhill since then. One WS appearance and only five postseason series wins since then.
