If the Braves play .500 the rest of the season (say 14-15) the Nats would have to go 27-2 just to catch the Braves. If the Braves only win 90 games (9-20 the rest of the way) the Nats have to go 22-7 just to catch them.

Dont think the Nats make the playoffs, think Pit comes back to earth a bit, but too little too late for Nats and D-Backs.

Nats have a good lineup that has struggled for some reason all year long. Don't really buy into hitting coaches, but since they changed them up, I think they are the highest scoring team in the majors.

Laroche has really been bad for a 1B. He is always capable of having a month where you can't get him out, but I don't see it happening.

    I wouldn't say poor.

I'd take their lineup over ours without Heyward right now.

Again, look at their schedule, outside of the final two series and maybe vs us, their schedule is pretty easy. Even still, 6.5 games is hardly impossible to make up.

Not saying they'll make it but it's not ridiculous to think they could go on a run and get in.

.840 OPS in August. I'd say thats pretty good. Not a lot of power but he's been an o base machine.

Looking ahead, I'd say we're probably gonna get screwed with the playoff television times.

If Dodgers-Pitt is the series, they'll give it prime time just to present it as Pitt in playoffs for first time in 21 years and Dodgers love.

If Dodgers-St. Louis is series, it's guaranteed to be prime time every night.

If Dodgers-Cincy, they'll just hype it as Aroldis Chapman vs. Puig

Unless we play St. Louis in 1st round, I don't like our chances of getting prime time slots.

You overrate their ability. Yes they can have a hot month. Any team can. But I certainly don't expect them to. They are what they have shown the first 5 months of the year. A 500 team. And there have been those all year saying that they are about to go on a run when they win a couple of games in a row.

I'm sure you would. You have thought they were a better team all year. You've expected them to go on a run all year. It hasn't happened yet and it's not going to happen now. They just swept the worst team in the NL. Big deal.

The next King Felix to make his debut tonight.

    Anything short of 9 IP, 1 H, no runs, 13 K's is a disappointment.

Gee has been rock solid all year.

He's shut us down too but I guess that means our offense stinks, right.

Hopefully the Mets can take one of the next two.

The Nats site is always fun when they lose.

    From Zuckerman on Nats loss:
Hitting lowlight: It was kind of a last-ditch effort, but it was the only real chance the Nationals had to tie this game. With two outs in the eighth, Lombardozzi came off the bench to homer and cut the deficit to 3-2. Denard Span and Zimmerman then singled, knocking Gee out of the game and putting this one in the hands of Bryce Harper against left-hander Scott Rice. Harper took three straight balls, and with the red-hot Jayson Werth in the on-deck circle, you figured the kid would take the 3-0 pitch. He didn’t, instead fouling it off. Harper then grounded Rice’s 3-1 fastball to second base, where Murphy briefly booted the ball. Harper, though, wasn’t running hard down the line and so he had no chance to try to beat it out. (Then the announcers said Werth flipped his bat in obvious disgust.)

Now that's a clown play, bro.

The Nationals have actually been "hot" the last few weeks. They're 14-6 in their last 20 games, but we're 13-7 in our last 20 so they've only gained one game.

Not that I feel sorry for them, and it feels even better since it felt like every time we had a hot stretch, they had an equally impressive or even better hot stretch, and we'd never gain any ground on them.

I am not saying the Nats make the playoffs, but they do have an extremely easy schedule the rest of the way. While the Reds have a tough schedule the final month. The D'Backs are only 5 back in the loss column to the Reds with the Nats only 6 back. So it's possible that either the D'Backs or Nats make a run. However, I don't expect either the D'Backs or Nats to make the playoffs. Though I could see one of them making a bit of a run at that final Wild Card spot and coming up a little short.

That said, I am still of the opinion that NL East division race has been over since at least the last series vs the Nats. It's just a matter of how soon we clinch it at this point. I figure either against the Padres at home or in D.C.

Even better take on Harper from Nationals bench coach Randy Knorr:

“That’s just him,” Knorr said. “He’s just 20, and sometimes, he just pouts. Sometimes, he pouts. I don’t know why. That’s the thing about him. You can’t be this guy who says you’re going to play hard every time out and then not do it. You can’t do that. He’ll learn that. He’ll get better with it. He’s 20 years old. He’s still a kid, and sometimes kids pout if things don’t go their way.

Unfortunately you can. Bigtime athletes can get away with that and a whole lot more. Who's going to call them out? Very few Randy Knorrs in the world. We'll see how long his job holds.

They aren't awful, certainly have underachieved though.

That said, their schedule is crazy easy the rest of this season.
