    Julion Teheran over the Years

    Going by the numbers...

    BABIP: .267, .288, .267 and .253 A bit lucky this year

HR/FB: 10.1, 8.1, 13.0 and 7.8 Like BABIP a significant part of this is random fluctuations that a pitcher can't control. Again some luck this year.

    GB percentage: 37.8, 34.8, 39.5 and 44.0 I like this trend

K rate: 8.2, 7.6, 7.7 and 7.6 Nothing to see here, keep moving

BB rate: 2.2, 2.1, 3.3 and 2.7 Better than last year, but not back to his old self yet

Avg Velocity on FB: 91.5, 90.4, 91.2 and 90.0 hmmmmm

So, when Teheran's avg velocity was right at 90 his era has been in the 2s... '14 -- 2.89 and '16 -- 2.73. Interesting

I would expect this year's avg to go up one the warm weather rolls around.

If we trade him, we should take note of this if we want to sell high:

Teheran has a 0.42 ERA (1 ER in 21.2 IP) with Flowers as his catcher and a 4.19 ERA (16 ER in 34.1 IP) with Pyrzynski behind the plate.

We should use that to trade him and Flowers as a package deal.

I'm in the minority with hoping we keep him. But I feel he'll be trade for the best offer. He's been my favorite pitcher since he signed. Love his competitiveness.

I think now is the time to sell on him. It really is a perfect storm. A very weak market, strong start to the season, combined with the fact he has a really affordable contract for a few more years. I wouldn't mind trading him but we have to get an impact bat in return.

Teheran is a tough choice. I do not see this team as a competitive team for a division title till 2019. At which time he will only have one year left on his contract following 2019.
His value will never be higher than it is now. With Strasburg's big deal and lack of free agent pitchers for 2017, Teheran is a mighty valuable piece with his super friendly contract, plus his age, hard to remember as it seems he has been around a long time, he is still only 25. Someone tell me where you can find a pitcher of this quality entering his prime, for 4 1/2 years and only 39M in money owed for that time period.
It should take a whole lot to pry him away, but given that deal put in front of you I cannot see how you don't pull the trigger. But the deal better knock your socks off.

As I said in the other thread, I don't see our rotation and record being better without him next year. The free agent market for a good vet to lead this young staff stinks and none I see on it would be an upgrade to Teheran. So if I trade him I'd want a return similar to the Miller trade.

Definitely agree... i would only understand a trade that teetered in our favor

I believe he would fetch a haul since he has been making flowers with Flowers.

I just hope someone in the coaching staff see this.. right now JT has only been throwing to Flowers because JT has gone up against Lefties his last few time out.

If bowman tweets it then it is obvious and approved by someone in the organization

I just think a Julio trade needs a Swanson level bat at aa or higher with power, ideally rh power. I'm not sure who that guy is.

It would set us back but what about Julio and folty to Rockies. Dahl, Nunez and they draft who we want them to with their 8 pick this year and pay for him.

He's been my fave since he arrived in the bigs. When he's on, he's aggressive and doesn't mess around. Kind of old school in that he moves guys off the plate. He's probably been a tad on the lucky side this year, but when he's pounding the strike zone and keeping the ball down, he's a really good pitcher. I've always thought his problem has been that his breaking stuff can get lazy and when it does, it gets tattooed. Like Julio3000, I don't give two craps about whether he's an ace or not.

He should net the same return as Miller, but we probably won't be dealing with Dave Stewart in a prospective deal, so the return won't be as bountiful.

Someone at BA the other day said they saw Bregman drafted as a trade chip. I'd look into him in a deal for Teheran.

Do the Astros have the prospects to pull off a trade for FF and Teheran starting with AJ reed and bregman?
