He really wasn't all that different besides his typical aging curve slide.

Yeah, while I understand that JUp is streaky, it's at least a little concerning that he's actually been very lucky with balls in play and has still been so bad. maybe his bat is just slowing down already?

There doesn't appear to be a good answer for his struggles. He's still not swing at all that many pitches out of the zone. He's not swinging more often. He's still making contact. About the only glaring difference is missing on swings of pitches outside of the zone (44% vs. 56%)

I would be concerned as a Tigers fan since this is month one, but as a Braves fan I have seen this song and dance before. Would you be shocked if he hit .400 in June with 10 homeruns? I wouldn't be.

define "making contact," because he's striking out at a 38% clip, all while walking less.

i'm sure he'll get hot for the next month or two now that i've mentioned it, but pretty interesting. on a record pace for Ks i believe.

contact% career- 72.7%, this year 66.9%. (this is due to the following- contact on pitches out of the zone, career 55.6%, this year 43.8%

% of pitches swung outside of zone 27.3%; career 25.8%
% of pitches swung inside the zone 65.1%; career 67.7%
    Swing % 45.5%; career 44.9%
Contact on pitches inside the zone 77.4%; career 80.5%

Essentially small margins all in worse favor. But, the only real difference is not making contact on pitches out of the zone. Im sure he's been through similar stretches before and at age 28, I'm pretty sure he returns to normalcy. not, that I wouldn't be concerned as a Tigers fan. But, looking from the outside, he could go on his typical tear.

Its early to get concerned on J UP, but saying that I am glad we didn't sink money into a long term deal with him. I saw what I needed to see with us. It was good, but I am not sure its going to stay that way for very long with him.

Scouts knock his stuff because his fastball is inconsistent. He's gotten to low to mid 90s but would sit high 80s. Good curveball and changeup. Probably middle of the rotation starter. His numbers seem to be better than his stuff. Kyle Davies????

meh ok. have him in a dynasty league so follow his numbers, but can never find too much info on him.

Sims/Jenkins/Newcomb won't be ready IMO..
I wouldn't not if somebody would do a 2 for 1 that we liked. Blair/Wisler/Folty that's who we are riding with. Need to make darn sure we hit on the JT trade though.

He is so interesting to watch. Fangraphs mentioned he throw more fastballs down the pipe than anyone yet batters miss like a third of the time on the pitches. So, he can look absolutely dominating through an entire game, but give up 2 homers. (though he HR/FB is insanely high right now)

I've noticed that. He's fantastic and absolutely one of the funnest pitchers to watch.

I'm just curious how his approach will age. Hopefully, tragically awful.
