Rosenthal- #Mets-#Mariners blockbuster involving Cano and Diaz is close, sources tell The Athletic. No announcement expected tonight, possibly tomorrow.

Are they trying to compete next season or not? If I'm Cano I'm wondering why I should waive my no trade as well.

I'd say if they could get Kelenic back and shed Cano's contract they've done fine.

Acquiring Bumgarner would likely register as a barely forward-lateral move, and when you consider having to relieve potential future/present assets to make said move, it represents a negative value.
That’s your opinion and I disagree.

Twitter rumor from a NY writer- Can report this more definitively: As of now, the not-yet- official Mets Mariners trade on the table is Cano/Diaz for Bruce/Swarzak/Kelenic/McNeil/Dunn

Man I hope the Mariners are about to send all of Cano's contract to the Mets. That will hurt when Bruce's contract expires.

Mets are certainly selling high on McNeil. At age 27, that's probably pretty smart. He could be a 4-5 WAR beast for the next 3 year's or so, or be could turn back into a pumpkin. Late bloomers are hard to value as well since you'll get less years of their prime.

That trade makes no sense for the Mets.

I actually like it for the Mets assuming the M's kick in enough money. I know they'll keep Diaz, but if they wanted, they could turn around and trade him and likely get back a better prospect haul then what they gave up

    Deal looks like.

    M's get: Swarzak, Bruce, 2-3 of Dunn/Kelenic/McNeil.

Mets get: Cano/Diaz. Cano deal is 5/86 to the Mets.

    According to Passan.

It'll save the Mets some money this year, but I will say, it seems like the Mets would be better off giving Kimbrell 5/84 than doing this deal.

They'd be better off signing like say, Britton or Miller and Ottavino for 10 mil each than doing this. While using those prospects for a more logical move.

The question now, is Haniger available? Because if he is, AA better get on the phone with them right away. Fits like a glove in the other outfield spot.

I don't understand this trade at all from the Mets perspective.

cano is still a good player. if the mets can get the pitching healthy, i don’t think they’ll be a team you can roll over.

I don't overlook the Mets at all with that rotation.

But why wouldn't you just give Asdrubal Cabrera 2/16m and sign a closer?

Although, can someone explain picking up Diaz and Cano at the expense of prospects, then trading Snydegard for _________, and then spending money in FA to sign a pitcher to replace Syndegard?

Also why does Syndegard's former agent want to trade him? Who wants to the be the team that finds out? (Maybe I do).

Doesn’t he have to be? Without Cano, Paxton or Diaz, the Ms have pretty much gone full rebuild. Keeping Haniger makes no sense after all this goes down. They may as well trade Mallex too.

Looks like McNeil is off the table.
