Even though it is for one year, i'd be underwhelmed if I were a D-Backs fan...but who knows. We got Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins for our fan favorite at the time with only 1 year left....

Maybe Weaver turns out to be their version of Shelby Miller......well, what they were hoping Shelby Miller would be

definitely feel this is quantity over quality...however, this is only for 1 year of control of Goldy...
Both Kelly and Weaver have a good bit of upside while Young is a nice lottery ticket. He's old for his level, but he has hit a ton at every stop in the minors. It should be said that this draft pick will now potentially give the D'backs SEVEN picks inside the top 80. They're gonna have a fun draft next year lol

Pretty clear the Diamondbacks are open for business. Wonder if AA might be more inclined to ask about Greinke and Peralta.

FOs know better than ever what wins baseball games, and they are adjusting accordingly. There's a reason we've heard numerous stories about guys increasing their launch angle for more success, and zero stories of guys decreasing their launch angle for more success. I have literally never seen a story that says a guy decided to hit more grounders and his career took off.

Again, HRs and Ks are exciting. Seeing a guy hit a ball 400', throw a pitch 98 mph, or snap off a nasty slider is exciting. Watching a pitcher bunt, or a 150 lb IFer slap a single the other way is not. Waiting 25 seconds between pitches, or a watching guy adjust his batting gloves after every single pitch during a 4 hour game is excruciating. MLB needs to address the real issues that prevent new young fans from watching, not chase the rantings of dinosaurs stuck in the past.
The best way to reduce the duration of games would be to find a way to limit pitching changes during an inning. What I'd suggest is to require all pitchers who enter a game other than at the start of a half-inning to either face three batters regardless of result, record two outs, or record the final out of an inning.

You can make a legitimate argument that it would dilute the quality of game play, as tired or ineffective pitchers would have to go a little longer than today in some cases, and that RH or LH specialists couldn't be used as frequently. But it would damned sure make the games go faster. And it would also require pitchers to be at least semi-competent against opposite-handed batters. It's not feasible to just limit the number of pitchers who can appear in an inning either. If the last guy just flat out doesn't have it, a 2-3 run game could turn into a double-digit deficit pretty quickly.

    yikes.
Hence what Sherman said in the tweet I posted about creativity and time about trading him. They may have to get a third team involved. I wouldn’t mind inquiring about Peralta and Archie Bradley.

What would you rather have. Haniger and Leake or Peralta and Grienke.

I don’t think they will insist on Leake being attached since he has a NTC. But I easily prefer Haniger to Peralta and don’t want Greinke

Given the choice, I’d probably go after Haniger, even though I’m not high on Leake. But that’s probably more doable because of money.

Kinda an underwhelming package for Goldy, even with a pick in there, but he only has 1 year of control so he doesnt have an absurd amount of value.

I'd be ok with Peralta, but obviously prefer Haniger. Either works for me. I dont want Greinke.

I think the DBacks did well here for a single season of a 1b.

man i don’t think that’s underwhelming at all. goldy has a year left. then the cards have to sign him, tho he will fetch them a pick now. still, weaver is good and young. kelly still has upside.

Agreed. I think people are overreacting to the fact that Weaver and Kelly have struggled initially at the MLB level. Their chances of being a bust is high, but I still think they have the same upside that they always had. This is more than I figured the D'backs would get.

kelly’s offensive upside is probably not at its peak. gotta lower that from where it once was.
