Nice read. Crazy how much he's filled out already.

Doing Drew Waters tomorrow. I'll make a note to read that one as well.

I would bet my house he spends all of 2018 with Rome unless he is hitting close to .400 in the first half.

It's really difficult to tell. That's probably what I would do, but the new player development staff really seems to promote guys aggressively. Hard to tell what the Braves would have done with Acuna in 2016 had he been healthy all year.

The comments about weight are a bit bothersome, but those problems (if they are problems) are likely a long ways off.

The comparisons to Miguel Sano go beyond the baseball diamond, it seems. He's turned out just fine, though.

Yeah, but that has all come after Rome. Who was the last guy that was promoted in the same year they started in Rome?

Acuna - no, though was injured
    Albies - no
    Allard - no
    Soroka - no
    Anderson - no, so far
    Wentz - no, so far
Bryse Wilson - no, so far
    Touki - no
    Riley - no
    Pache - no, so far

Several of these guys have been promoted aggressively after leaving Rome, but they still spent a full year in Rome first. We seem to believe in that and then beyond that, it's based on the player's performance. Having said that, it wouldn't shock me if Maitan got a taste of Florida at the end of next year. But I don't see AA at 18.

It is my understanding that Rome is where the Braves have their best developmental people and thats why they always leave them there for a full season unless they are older for the level.

From what I understand, it's a pretty common thing to happen when Latin American kids are given some serious cash and dumped into the US where there's 3 fast food places on every corner.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it becomes an ongoing issue.

ETA- pretty common is probably an overstatement, but still not a major point of concern long term. It's not like he's Gohara fat.
