Obviously Harper has had the last laugh (over and over) but that moment just cracked me up. Harper was busy yelling like a prick and Julion just calmly waved him over and said "come on." I'm sure everybody on the field would have loved a crack at him.

    Pretty boy Posey?

    Not really surprising.

Eh. I'm not a fan of Posey but I think two things were at play here: first, as has been already noted, I think he didn't approve of Strickland's decision to hit Harper in the first place (and didn't feel the need to intervene thereafter); and, perhaps more importantly, Posey's been instructed to avoid anything that may exacerbate his prior concussion symptoms. I don't blame the guy for not risking his own health (and future paychecks) for a teammate whose actions he doesn't agree with.

I don't necessarily blame him either. What he did (or, in this case, didn't do) is logical from both standpoints you outlined.

At the same time, the type of intervention a catcher usually engages in after a HBP isn't overtly physical. Posey more or less put his hands on his hips and watched the fireworks. There are very few catchers in the game I could imagine taking the same tact. Maybe Posey gets a pass because he's the best catcher in the game, the core of the Giants, and looking to avoid injury - especially given prior history. Maybe.

I don't give it to him, personally, because I believe in the universality of teamsmanship. Even if what Strickland did was egregiously beyond the pale (it wasn't) ... he does ultimately wear the same uniform as Posey. The Braves didn't refuse to play ball with John Rocker after he insulted every person in America who wasn't white and didn't speak English.

I don't think any of this is that big of a deal though. I just enjoyed seeing Harper take a few hooks.

Wood is pitcher of month and Holland is reliever of month.

I was hoping to jump on Holland last winter. He was a good gamble especially with the Closer market as it is. Imagine the trade chips in relievers we would have right now.

I was hoping the Braves would take a gamble on Holland too. It's important to note that his $15M option next year vests just by remaining relatively healthy (50 games). That is a pretty big downside if he ended up being healthy and mediocre.

I forgot about his 15 million. I am not so sure I would like that. He will most certainly earn his 6 million this year. But with arm repair, he could completely blow up and be a 15 million black hole. Still pretty cool how good the dude has been over his career.

    Kimbrel's May

Holland may be reliever of the month, but in May Craig Kimbrel was 7-for-7 in save opps with a 0.00 ERA and a 25/1 strikeout to walk ratio. Will always be one of my faves.

Edinson Volquez signed a two year deal with the Marlins. He makes 9 mil this year and 13 mil next year. We are paying 12 mil to Colon this year alone. In other news.....

He was great yesterday but before that game he had a 4.44 ERA and 4.62 FIP. Better than Colon obviously but Volquez hasn't been some great signing.

Gennett's four home run game tonight brings back up an interesting record that's been done several times, more often recently.

of course Bob Horner's version was a big deal to a young Brave fan.

For some reason the guy I always think of in connection to the record is Mark Whiten, maybe because Sportcenter or other media referenced Horner as the last to do it?

I traded Sosa for Shawn Green and closer the day before his four HR barrage in my fantasy league, which makes that memorable.
