You say this in every thread this issue is brought up. At some point the boy's club mentality doesn't apply anymore.

Ensheff is a smart guy who has great opinions, but lacks any sense of decorum and, frankly, shouldn't be allowed to post anymore.

This isn't about protecting anybody's feelings. I could care less what he says to me. But it affects every single discussion that takes place on this board, and not for the better.

That is the first time I have ever said that. I am not saying it is right to derail a thread with goofing off.. but in all honesty.. what thread doesn't get side tracked.. even with other baseball topics. Again. I will talk ball all night long. I am big on prospect talk. But it doesn't bother me when someone is just acting a fool for attention. We are all seeking it really.. otherwise we would not post our thoughts.. EVER..

I can't say, because I took a hiatus from the board during that time, but I do remember the 20 HR bet.

He'll either figure it out or he wont.
I agree. If a prospect is irrevocably broken by facing adversity then they weren't going to pan out anyway.

I have similar feelings about players being permanently stunted in their ability by being promoted early.

Both of these theories tend have at their root a desire to validate unrealistic opinions of players. Basically these are homer theories to explain why prospects didn't turn out as great as they wanted.

Yes. There are some definite positives that help players in the pros. I think the good and bad could cancel each other out a bit. I've heard minor league umps have been tough this year.

He's fine. During losing streaks, he keeps stretching and stays ready.

They played some highlights of Newcomb during the broadcast last night. While almost anyone can look good in highlights, it was a reminder of just how filthy Newcomb's stuff is. If he can just keep his walks to the levels he had in the minors then he's a very valuable piece. If he ends up being able to cut down on the walks (and that's not uncommon for a pitcher over their first 3-4 seasons in the majors) then he's an ace. His stuff is that good.

I just hope we show the same patience with newk as we did folty. I still think we gave up on wisler too soon. I think he was learning on the job just like folty and we basically said sorry your improvements weren't good enough we are going to give your spot to your grand dad. I never thought wisler was going to grow into too or rotation stuff. But at least give him two full years to grow into that #3 we were hoping for.

Let's dream a little and say both wisler and Newcomb give us a quality start Saturday. Which one you think stays?

I think they'd probably keep Wisler up. If they can rely on Wisler and give Newk some more development time I think they'll do that.

Reality is that Folty and Newk's stuff is miles better than Wisler...that's why they gave up on him. They have brought him up many times (just like this week), so they are still giving him chances...he has just failed pretty much every time.

If Folty and Newk turn out to be TOR...the rebuild is a success. We no doubt have more than a couple 3-5 type starters coming up on the low end. How would you like to face Folty, Newk and Weigel in a three game set. That might happen next year.

Newk is the linchpin. If he develops into a TOR...all the sudden...the rebuild AND the Simmons trade look much better. Just think if we had two solid starters we could count on before getting into any of our other depth.

I think they either need to give Wisler another chance in the rotation or they need to trade him for whatever they can get. I'd give him a chance.

I haven't given up on him entirely as I've seen him look ok at times, but if the Braves think he is a reliever they ought to look at trading him. As a young pitcher who was formerly well regarded -- a team trying to come out of rebuilding with very little pitching might want to take a flyer.

Perhaps you could trade reclamation projects or perhaps you could get something far away with promise or something useful but flawed.

Well it's up to him. I would say three spots will be open by the deadline. Newk (unless he implodes) will be one, Medlen will likely have one, and whoever is doing the best of Wisler, Sims or Blair will have the other. They are giving Wisler the first chance to earn it this week.

I am 100% with you and have considered finding another avenue to get my Braves fix. The fact that mods let this continue is insane to me. It's like certain poster or posters come here just to be pricks and Debbie downers.

Never been a fan of Wisler. He's never been all that good at AAA. He's a AA1/2 pitcher. Too good for AA and not good enough for AAA.
