Ppl were down on Anderson but he's been pretty dang good. Draft them again and he's not lasting long. I'm more questioning wentz and mueller than anderson.

It sounds like green is the only obvious guy. McKay might be. Everything else is in the eye of the beholder.

If anything this group deserves a pass on its drafts and trading crappy players. They've killed that so far.
Looking at the history of the draft one wonders why people even bother following it.

But this thread has generally been various media outlets report wildly different candidates for the Braves to pick, without even an indication that they base the guess on anything solid, and people freak about the ones that they don't like.

It's not going to suck, the braves are going to be adding really good talent regardless. Sheesh.

I think if anything their track record in the draft so far has been pretty good, that should buy them some faith.

No matter who they pick a few posters will show up to tell us how they screwed up and that player is sure to bust. If only they would have chosen ???? Instead, but NO the FO are total idiots.

    Sound about right?

The one player I don't really want I've seen us connected to is Nick Pratto. A HS 1b would make me unhappy with the 5th pick. Gore, Wright, Green, Lewis, Heasely, McKay, I would be fine with.

I'm pretty much the same way. Even Baz, as a potential underslot guy, has 5 pitches with his slider as the 3rd best breaking pitch in the prep class per BA and mid 90s heat (with higher peak). Nothing to sneeze at there. I just don't see the point in going for a contact-oriented 1B at #5 overall.

First mock of the day and Callis/Mayo both have the Braves taking Keston Hiura. Woof. The only nice thing I can say is it's better than Pratto.

    5. Braves
Mayo: Keston Hiura, OF/2B, UC Irvine - There is a very good chance they take Wright off the board, but there was more talk about possible deal-making here than anyplace else. Hiura leads a group of targets that includes high school first baseman Nick Pratto and high school outfielder Tristen Lutz. Virginia outfielder Adam Haseley remains in the mix, and some like high school right-hander Shane Baz.
Callis: Keston Hiura, OF/2B, UC Irvine - Atlanta wouldn't pass on McKay or Lewis. They could take Vanderbilt right-hander Kyle Wright, the last of the consensus top-five prospects remaining in this scenario, but are more likely to seek a discount so they could spend more money on later selections. Hiura, North Carolina prep outfielder Austin Beck and Pratto are the primary targets for deals.

His Pipeline profile erases any doubt about why we are interested: "Some scouts in the area believe Hiura will need Tommy John surgery."

All of theses rumors are interesting

You wonder how much is due diligence and how much is negotiating strategy. They could be trying to tell wright et al that they have other options and get them to agree to x salary so they can plan future picks

Everyone is calling it a bad draft but there are still going to be all stars. So getting more chances to luck onto the all stars isn't crazy to me.

You look at all of the redraft 5 plus years later and they can't even fill round one with players avg 2 plus war. Some not even a full round of MLB players

    No. No.

If you have to go underslot, go Lutz. At least he has a position, isn't injured and is projectable.

No disrespect to the Hiura family, but I will be extremely disappointed if he's the pick at #5. Impending TJS surgery and position yet to be determined. Doesn't appear to have much in terms of power potential. Just not a guy one would pick at #5.

I just hope they go through the front door this year and draft guys at or near slot and not try to get too cute by half. I view last year as a bit different because Anderson was rising and was likely a top ten guy on most teams' boards. I doubt that's the case with Hiura.

Hiura is the best college hitter in the draft. Could be worse.

If looking under slot leads us to take Beck, that's a best-case for me. If it also leads to a legit talent at 41, all the better.

If we take Pratto or Hiura, huge ugh.

I'm confused about all the under slot talk mostly because it's impossible to know who would be the pick at 41.

If we are going Pratto or Hiura because we want Tristian Beck at 41, that's worst case scenario. Hiura/Beck isn't an exciting combo.

And there's no guarantee that any guy we want at 41 will even be there.

I like Lutz better than Beck. Similar profiles, Lutz bigger, more projectable, less questions, no recent ACL

We don't have the money or picks to do stupid deals this year. Two teams have an additional two picks before we hit 41. Great chance our guy won't be there. This draft needs to be bpa, then bpa then maybe bpa after that. Maybe our 4th pick can be bpa. Anything else is triwling a loaed gun in a room with a gas leak next to the armory supply house.
