Gonna want to be solid in the infield though. Makes the middle infield decisions more interesting.

This is from last year but I highly doubt his velocity would have dropped significantly without hearing about it from any of the more major prospect sites.

I have no idea. I'm not sitting there with a radar gun getting velo readings. I can only go by what I read, which is why I'm asking where those reports came from.

No matter where the info comes from (as long as it's accurate), 89-91 isn't going to cut it if we are talking about Allard being a Top 25 prospect with TOR upside. If we are comparing THAT Allard to Wright...he isn't even in the same tier as Wright.

Same thing with Soroka. If Soroka is succeeding in AA agaisnt inferior hitters by pairing mediocre stuff with superior sequencing/control, he also isn't as good a prospect as Wright. I can't find recent accurate data on either guys though to form an informed opinion.

Well if you go by Wright's last start he was sitting 90-93 so he didn't look that great either.

I think you're looking too much into the discussion. I haven't seen anyone freaking out... its been an open discussion. Also... Albies struggled for a long time before he was ever injured. No one is worried to death for freaking out about things... but it is fair to bring it up for discussion on a baseball discussion forum.

You're reading a different board than I am if you see people worrying. Just bringing up that the fastball velocity I've seen and the K rate dropping for Allard isn't ideal. I still like him and am not writing him off at all.

I think pretty much everyone, in general, needs to be more patient with prospects. It seems like if the player isn't constantly ascending, he's written off or downgraded.

I totally agree—I myself haven't even written off Wisler or Blair, though my expectation for the latter have been massively downgraded (I was never too high on Wisler). Nonetheless, I totally understand—from a fan perspective—how it's a lot easier to be very patient with prospects when the product on the major-league field isn't dominated by retreads, castoffs, wash-outs, and similar garbage. You just hope the front-office brass doesn't let that fan impatience infect their decision-making (<cough>Swanson</cough>).

I'm pretty disappointed in both Blair and Wisler. I thought at worst they could be back end of the rotation guys. Just amazing how not good they are.

Looking at the big picture. Getting one of Folty/Newk/Wisler/Blair to be an average starter is about what you would expect.

I see your point, but I would see Newk as the first of the next group rather than lumping him with Blair and Wisler.

I still hold out some hope for Wisler, though not much now. I thought he had flashes where he had promise, but few and far between and I'm not sure they are still there. Still someone should give him another chance at some point.

One has to be very patient with pitchers, especially those who have had some success at the lower levels. They develop an "out" pitch and a guy who is struggling can all of a sudden become a contributor. I think the problem with both Wisler and Blair is that they don't have anything right now that keeps the hitter off balance. That's going to lead to nibbling, which leads to walks, which leads to a mistake and you're down three runs in a hurry.

I consider folty 1 already. Maybe a bit premature but I think he will find a way to stick in the rotation for the next few years. I'm a big be ever in Newcomb obviously.

Newk just turned 24. Blair is 25. Wisler is 24. Folty is 25. All were AA or higher when acquired and even though Newk is the last of that group to debut I would still put him in the same group compared to all the younger players who are hitting AA this year.
