    Homer Bailey

David Price and to a lesser extent max Scherzer have been discussed on this board as possible "Ace" options but the one guy who may cost less and has that "Ace" type stuff is Homer Bailey. Bailey has great stuff and a fastball that's in the mid 90's and he's also just now reaching his prime as he'll be 28 when the season starts. I've heard the Reds may trade Homer since he's showed no signs of wanting to re-sign with the Reds(can you blame a pitcher for wanting to leave that ballpark) and the Reds GM does not want to come away empty handed. The Reds would obviously want Alex Wood in return and I'm sure we'd have to give them either Bethancourt,Perraza or Cabrera if not 2 of the three. Obviously Lucas Sims is almost un-touchable but I'd be willing to deal a couple of top prospects for Homer Bailey. Thoughts?

Yeah...no thanks. Just sign Josh Johnson or Garza (who will not cost a draft pick).

If we make that trade, we would be contributing to the notion that the Rays are run by a set of geniuses. Terrible trade for us.

Of course but I doubt TB GM would go for that. I think i'd still rather have Bailey. I'm not a huge fan of Price.

Swap out Sims for anyone else not on the MLB roster (maybe not Cabrera) and you have yourself a deal.

Only way i'd take Price is if we got a window to sign him to an extension, otheriwise it's useless to trade a lot for him.

Bailey is only signed for one year, so that would be a waste.

The price of an extension would also matter.

Say no to trading for an Ace. You either develop one or you don't have one. Of course you can be the Dodgers and just sign them.

Sure, but trading 4-5 top prospects for two years of Price isnt a good way of business.

Cardinals dont do that even though their payroll is a bit higher than ours.

Most of their team is homegrown.

I really like Wood going forward. I think he could be a top end guy. He was strong for us last year. No way I deal him for anyone.

6 more years of contractual control at sub-market prices, 3 of them probably at pre-arb prices. That's extremely valuable. Black gold.
