I'm not sure why he'd spend alot on a BP arm, but a 1 year deal would be ok.

But you trying to say baseballs free agency is good, there's no excuse guys like Harper, Machado, Keuchel, Kimbrel should still be on the market when it's damn near February.

I wonder if the collapse in free agency markets will make more players open to extensions

I guess what happens to Machado and Harper here will influence Albies and Acuna. If they still get mega contracts then it still behooves them to wait it out and try to do the same. Both would be hitting FA super young.

Young players have been skipping extensions the last few years because they used to get mega bucks as FA. Player/agent behavior already adapted once to market realities, so I would expect it to shift again once these mega deals are no longer handed out.

Either way, I don't expect the next CBA negotiation to be smooth at all.

I kinda except the Yankees or dodgers to drop the owners' agreement (if there is one to keep salaries down) any second now and sign both Machado and Harper. Kinda playing, kinda not

    1. I think we will see the qualifying offer disappear. It really should since it benefits the large market teams much more than the small market teams with the exception being where the small market team has a superstar leaving for FA and knows that there is no way they will accept. I think you'll see some QO type compensation for small market teams losing FA similar to current competitive balance picks.

    2. I also think that players are going to have to accept that the Pujols/Cabrera type contracts just aren't going to happen anymore. There's enough data out there now that says it almost never is a good idea. Players are going to have to maximize their AAV OR accept a lower AAV in return for years. Both will no longer be an option.

    3. Baseball will expand by 2 teams (maybe 4). That will be 50 more jobs for veterans to compete for. If a vet can't get a job then, he doesn't deserve one.

    4. There will be an adjustment in the way teams hold players down for service time reasons. MLB veterans will want to be careful though because if they take away incentive to keep young players down, teams will rush young players up costing more veterans work.

As someone who loathes- and I mean loathes - unions- I hope the next CBA is a disaster and they come up with a low- ball cap and let the whole league go play in Japan if they want to. We have millions of kids who would love to play a game for a living for 500k a year. Let em strike and never come back.

Maybe make it age related instead of service time related? So a team controls you through, say, age 25? Just a random thought

I suggest the Twins not meet with Kimbrel in Minnesota if they want to sign him.

I would also prefer that some billionaires and corporations gain a greater share of the profit while the quality of the game decreased.

I proposed this same idea about a month ago and Enscheff essentially called me a moron and said there was zero chance Acuna would ever sign an extension.

Really? I essentially called you a moron? I said there was zero chance? Are you sure that's what I said? Are you sure I didn't actually say exactly:

Hopefully the Braves can get an extension that guarantees his arb years in exchange for 1-2 of his FA years. Acuna and his agents know he is likely to make record, or close to it, cash in arb already, so there is little to no incentive for him to sign an extension.
Hopefully someone would be so kind as to point out the personal attack I made in that post essentially calling you a moron.

Your reading comprehension does point to you being a moron though, so I guess you proved that all by yourself.

4:30pm: While the Reds’ interest in Realmuto is genuine, tweets C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic, the organization also doesn’t view him as a necessity and isn’t willing to overpay in order to acquire the All-Star.

Yeah he ain’t goin there. They aren’t ready to compete in the central yet and the Marlins want one of their top prospects.

Since the Reds are a dead end which team will suddenly become player in the JTR sweepstakes?

My bet is on the Mariners. Their stupid GM has gone a few weeks without making a trade.
