In saying that....trading him comes down to Donaldson. If we sign him back for 2-3 years....Riley could be moved. The only way he is moved is in a big deal. As long as we sign Donaldson...I’m fine with that. If Donaldson doesn’t sign, you could be looking at a Riley/Camargo duo.

We do need to make a big trade this offseason(needs to be the right one though). We have already held onto guys like Touki for too long.
If we go into the season with a Riley/Camargo 3B, we will not win the division. Riley absolutely needs to be sold now if any team out there still thinks he has a punters chance of turning into a serviceable MLB player.

TODAY: “Many folks around baseball believe” Tingler will be hired as the Padres’ next manager, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman (Twitter link). While nothing is yet confirmed, “Tingler is seen as [the] favorite.”

I don't care what it sounds like, if it keeps Wash in Atl you can call him anything you want.

Trading Riley comes down to one thing, and one thing only: the existence of a team that believes in his “flashes”.

If another team thinks he is a middle of the order masher who just needs reps to gain strike zone judgement, trading him is likely the best way to maximize his value.

If all teams think he is Adam Duvall at 3b, then his value is likely maximized as a cheap role player for the Braves while they make playoff runs.

My new comp for Riley is Pedro Alvarez. In his major league career, Alvarez has a K rate of 28.7% and BB rate of 9.5%. During his best years of 2012 and 2013, his K rate was over 30% and his BB rate under 9%. However, in those years he slugged 30 and 36 HRs respectively. One difference is that Alvarez has always been a bad defensive third baseman while Riley's defense is probably at least average if not a little above average at third.

I think Riley can probably improve to the point where he's a one trick pony like Alvarez. That one trick being hitting the ball a long way.

It was actually a horror movie starring Vincent Price. Kind of a schlock classic.

I’m cool with a “smaller” ball, but you can’t use one ball for the entire season and then suddenly change it for the postseason.

    I don't know what's worse...

    1. MLB is intentionally changing the balls, or...
    2. MLB has no idea what's causing the balls to change.

So pick your poison, deceitful or incompetent.

No other sports league in the world is as out of touch with its fan base as MLB.

God I hate to say that Bud Selig might have done less damage to the game than Manfred is doing. Shame cause I had really high hopes for Manfred wanting to grow the game with the younger demographic when he came in.

At least back in Selig's day MLB was the #2 sport in America. Baseball still has a healthy lead over soccer/hockey though

IMO it's clearly deceitful. They knew what they were doing the whole time. They wanted a high scoring league like in the steroid era but without the steroids. But it got to the point with all the strikeouts, walks, homers, etc that old white people started complaining about how the game used to be played. And instead of telling them to STFU and usher in a younger generation of fans they seem to be catering to them.

I don't think plan worked as well as they thought it would. They weren't really drawing new fans and they were pissing off the fans that they did have.

Speaking of which, we have out first ejection, courtesy of Robo-Ump. Apparently this a strike now:

Robo-Ump is still the stupiddest idea in the history of baseball. Why even have the home plate umpire stand behind the catcher? His job is useless until someone is on base, unless you count foul tips. Also, might as well have the catcher stand up and let the pitcher throw where he wants when no one is on base. There really isn't a use for him other than to throw the ball back to the pitcher.
