I think what KLaw called "bat speed" issues is really more of a long swing issue. His bat is probably faster than most as he would need that to hit as well as he has with a long swing.

Troy Glaus is used as a comp a lot and I can see why. Riley is a big slugger with a long swing like Glaus. But I think Glaus is an absolute best case scenario. I think perhaps a more realistic comp is Mark Reynolds.

RHH Jake Lamb with a half grade less power has been my comp for Riley for a while now.

I have no idea since I like to scout based on data, and there is no data available for ST games.

I want to believe that part of Swanson's problem was being needlessly rushed to the MLB level, and I hope he can work through that and the wrist injury to be the hitter we all hope he can be.

If he can play league average defense, that's not a bad thing.

Swanson is going to be a huge x-factor for us this season. If he can maintain a mid-.700s OPS for a full season and maintain his great defense then he is going to be huge for us. I really hope that these improvements we've seen are for real.

Wight missed up at 96 and got it laced to CF by Winkler for a hit.

Used a couple changes and a nasty slider away to K Farmer.

Some RHH hit a decently located 96 for a single.

Couldn't get the next RHH to chase a slider down, and ended up grooving 97 that got roped into the gap.

Now he is scatter shot with the control trying to over throw to finish hitters off.

Hitting 97 with the fastball, but location is all over the place trying to do it.

Wright was pretty clearly working on off speed stuff that inning after not using those pitches much in the 1st. Executing these pitch sequences is going to be the next step in his development. Hopefully it doesn't cost the Braves many games early in the season while he figures it out.

I was driving to the gym and missed Wright’s next. How hard hit was the single?

If Wright locates his fastball like this vs Philly they will light his butt up and he'll hit the showers early. He doesn't look ready to me to be starting game 3 for us. I like his potential but he isn't there yet. Hopefully Teheran and Wilson are strong vs Philly or that series may turn ugly.

I agree. The things Wright needs to work on can be done at AAA. Unfortunately, they need him on Philly to start the season.

I really hope our inability to sign a sp to cover our injuries doesn’t come back to bite us. Throwing the kids out there may not turn out to be a wise move if they take their lumps and we get buried in the standings early.

You mean Josh Tomlin wasn’t the impact SP you were hoping for?

It will be important for Teheran to set the tone and have a solid game in a win to keep some pressure off the kids. There will be plenty of pressure anyway, but you don't want to be looking at a sweep with Wright starting game three in Philly. Plus I do not like where are bullpen is at right now either with the injuries to key members (hopefully O'Day is back soon and his old self as he is a very good reliever when healthy).

It’s a shame there isn’t a reliever available who loves the Braves, has been following us around all spring and basically begging us to sign him, and who only wants a three year deal. Damn shame.

I love how the Brewers were “very interested” last week and that kind of just lost momentum. It’s almost as if Kimbrel is just sitting there waiting for us to sign him and AA just buried his head in the sand. We’re two days away from opening day and he’s still sitting there waiting for us to pluck him out of the free agent pool. Cmon AA wake the eff up and sign him already.
