Having the best year of his career. Has a shot at being best reliever ever if he stays healthy.

Not his fault he's played for out of contention teams, I don't guess, but he's not likely to ever have that perception.

Perception doesn't really matter. A lot of people perceive Jeter to be one of the best ever.

    It does and it doesn't.

Jeter was pretty darn good, but whether he was or wasn't one of the greatest he'll be someone people talk about forever.

I'm talking about statistically speaking. Perception wise? It's going to be hard for anyone to come close to what Rivera did for the reason you mentioned.

Kimbrel might reach that point of being the best reliever ever soon for me. Since Rivera accomplished nothing outside of a Yankee uniform I rank him with the likes of Will Startup. The Yankees have always been cheaters and manipulated the rules to ensure that its not a level playing field to protect their massive financial advantage. So I dont recognized anything a player does while playing for them.

Through his age 28 season (end of last season), Kimbrel had 256 saves.

Through his age 28 season, Mariano Rivera had 84 saves.

I'd say Kimbrel has a shot to easily break the record, but Mariano played until age 43. Kimbrel will need health and the desire to stick around until his late 30's.

It's not so much the counting numbers, it's the being the lockdown closer for the best dynasty in modern history that will be hard to displace. Doing it in relatively obscurity not as effective. His numbers might look better when he's done though.

He definitely could.....throw heat and a nasty slider until his arm needs surgery. Take a season off, then come back with a nasty cutter.

    Really do miss Kimbrel
