    Olivera

His defense has been less than stellar in the minors. Should we consider moving him to 2b and keep Garcia at 3b? Peterson has been abysmal for most of the season. Let Peterson learn to play multiple positions and maybe be utility player

It doesn't really matter. Garcia isn't much of anything either. I'd rather have Peterson play 3B and see if he can hack it over there. Right now he and Adonis have basically the same offensive numbers, And it's not like he ever ripped up the minors (had a paltry 94 wRC+ in AAA this year) and he's not young. Might as well stick Peterson over there if you think Olivera is your longterm 2B. Then wait for someone to come up in the minors or make a move for a 3B.

Hopefully next year Rio Ruiz starts hitting again and gives us a major league 3B.

He's not been good. He's got solid value cause of being cheap, but he's got no offense and not enough defense to make up for that no offens.e

    Season stats before tonight's 0-4...
    .238 avg .313 obp .651 ops

    Last 30...
    .211 avg .271 obp .312 slugging

    I'd say that's pretty abysmal

Yeah, I just looked at garcia's stats... Not pretty. I guess I had selective memory remembering his hr's, but not his terrible obp and avg

What do we think of Castro? He's looked good in the small sample size I've seen this year. Could we possibly platoon 2b with Castro and Peterson next season?

Need to consider that this is Peterson's first full season, which he's currently in the dog days of August.

Jace is extremely likable, but he doesn't look like a starting player on a contending team. I think he would be a fantastic utility player though.

That's where I kind of disagree. You may be right, but I'm not willing to give up on him yet. He's still really young, and some of the best players in the game have had rookie years as bad if not worse than Peterson at the plate. Quite a few actually. At times, he's looked fantastic this year... he should be given another chance next year.

Granted, it's not his rookie year and he was even worse in San Diego (semantics, I know).

I agree that he should be given an opportunity next year in place of replacement muck like a Callaspo-esque type.

He only had 53 MLB at-bats with SD... it was his rookie year this year.

I will disagree with yo there big time. Let's look at some of the "best players in the game" by that I'll take over the last 3 years the top 15 guys in fWAR and their first 100+ game season in wRC+

    Mike Trout - 167
    Josh Donaldson - 148
    Cutch - 122
    Miggy 129
    Goldschmidt - 118
    Posey - 134
    Gomez - 74
    Carpenter - 124
    Machado - 102
    Adam Jones - 84
    Bautista - 96
    Gordon - 87
    Beltre - 100
    Longoria - 128
    Cain - 88

So a handful of them had bad first full years, only one worse than Peterson (Gomez who's basically gotten all of his value the last 3 years) Most players nowadays come into the majors ready. It's not the old days. People are hung up on old trends. Which was a guy came to the majors and struggled for some time then peaked in their mid 20s. Players back then were often ran ragged and not in the best physical health before coming to the majors. So many hitters are coming in now pretty close to their peaks. You see improvement over time getting used to major league zones and pitching, but overall it's not as drastic as it used to be. Peterson doesn't have the best skill set for a good hitter.

C2C is right, he didn't have the PA but he spent enough time on the roster to qualify as a rookie.

Pretty sure Olivera won't see the majors for a quite sometime. The genius and his crew have plenty of time to figure out where to play him.

Well, I'm also not trying to say Peterson is going to be one of the "best in the game"... my point is, struggling as a rookie does not mean he cannot be a solid regular from here on out.
