Seems everybody has differing opinions of what "overpay" and "desperate" mean.

With Rosenthal's report that the Os expect a return "equal to or better than" what the Royals got for Herrera, I'd expect Wisler, Ruiz, and Ynoa would be a significantly stronger offer that I don't think would bother too many people. You'd think that Baltimore probably likes Valera and Bannon better than Rio though (I would), so giving them their choice of a third arm in De La Cruz or another OF option in Demeritte, Wilson, or Neslony wouldn't bother me personally - but I'd still want a window to try to extend Britton.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

It doesn’t appear the Dodgers or Braves are “quite as engaged” on Britton as other teams are, Crasnick relays. LA’s wary of the luxury tax, as mentioned below, while the Braves aren’t keen on giving up prospects for short-term help, Crasnick suggests

So we aren't really pursuing Britton that hard. With Viz not being healthy or reliable what are we doing? The prospects it would take for Britton wouldn't hurt us. We are only a half game out of first and have a wild card spot so what is AA gonna actually do to help the back end of the bullpen out?

I honestly didn’t know Rodney was still in the league. Isn’t he like 50?

I imagine a lot of these calls have gone this way:

    **phone rings**

AA: Hello? AA here. I'm interested in possibly trading for Zach Britton.
Baltimore GM: Sounds good to me.
AA: Okay, how does Rio Ruiz, Tucker Davidson, and Isranel Wilson sound?
Baltimore GM: Doesn't sound nearly enough to me. Tucker Davidson, Kyle Muller, and Dustin Peterson sounds better to me.
AA: That's too much for me. Have a nice afternoon.
    Baltimore GM: You too.
    AA: Thank you. Goodbye. *click*

I think the Braves don't have a lot of leverage because it's kind of obvious who the Braves would want to trade. Guys like Rio Ruiz, Matt Wisler, Lucas Sims, Dustin Peterson, Isranel Wilson, Travis Demeritte, etc.
Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Not sure what that has to do with it. It would boil down to what other teams are offering compared to rio, wisler, sims, dpete, etc. All the other teams involved are probably offering the same type of players. Orioles will most likely end up picking which team's B prospects they like best

actually, what you have detailed could well be the opening asks and offers...for experienced negotiators that's not where things end

Leverage always depends on the other offers Duquette's getting. Now that the market sorta corrected itself over the winter, we're not likely to see drastic overpays of prospect control for a couple of months of a rental - save the incredibly rare "one player away" type of swap that Torres for Chapman was. They announced they were expecting the type of return DMGM got for Herrera, meaning they know they're not going to receive top-flight prospects. Their leverage would only exist if they were offered something better than Wisler/Ruiz and/or lower level guys who are further away, and they're not likely to.

The Astros would REALLY like to upgrade their back end, but Luhnow's smart enough to realize none of the Closers that are available are sure things - including Britton.

You mentioned Muller and D-Pete earlier - as of now, those two are arguably better prospects than just about any that have been moved that weren't named Mejia or Diaz. Given his shaky injury history, Baltimore's not likely to get that level of prospect for anyone they have left to trade. I don't think Peterson would be a deal-breaker by any stretch, but his inclusion would probably limit the number of prospects the Os would get to 2. It'd be steep enough that Duquette could probably declare it a "win" (which would be argued about for a while), but if Wisler and D-Pete gets you Britton with an extension I certainly wouldn't complain - Wisler will be out of options, and Pache and Waters are a year closer than they were when Peterson was going off during spring training. Assuming Markakis isn't brought back, there are still several options for the 3rd OF spot next spring that can keep a spot warm for Pache and depending on what happens this winter Riley might even be an option out there.

Well that would be stupid player to throw in a deal for an expensive rental skaky after injury I’m a “buyer’s market.”

Particularly after a better reliever just was traded for no one with any upside.

Why Schoop? I guess if Dansby is in the trade for Gausman?

    Archer 6 innings, 3 runs, 13 K's today.

Wonder what it would cost for him, he shouldnt cost as much as a couple years ago.

Gausman, Bundy or Schoop are meh, i'd aim higher.
