Not sure that the slope is as slippery as posited. Also not sure that the idea that organizations taking fed dollars being able to refuse to hire someone in a same-sex relationship is one that will last too far into the 21st century, regardless of this order.
That might be the conclusion of many. But I think those who come to that decision do need to wrestle - at least a bit - with the point that Douthat made in the op-ed I posted in the Hobby Lobby thread. Such demands may indeed mean less service to those in need, considering how many people are actually reached and benefited by the work of such charities and non-profits. There are consequences of enforcing this worldview upon those who have different convictions.
That said, I think this will continue and so those who don't hold your conviction ought to wean themselves off being the ones who allocate government funds this way. And instead turn to their own constituencies alone. It'll likely mean smaller operations in the short term. But hopefully not long term.
Pretty much the point made here: link.
I think the Church (in the West) has to follow new (or more ancient) models in our ever more intolerant secular culture. Which imho, is actually a good thing. We hold a far different creed than our secular fellow citizens. I heard a fine message recently by Tim Keller which posited that Christians should be both repulsive and attractive to our culture. Our creed and praxis is repulsive - but may a more clearly and separate praxis flowing from our creed also become strangely attractive in it's sacrificial care of others, without having fed off the government tit.

you know what would maybe stop the president from doing executive orders?
a congress that would
you know
govern
go to the table and get something done instead of just saying "We won't work with this guy"
When you ramrod a bill down congress throat without allowing due process of course you don't want to work with him. I wouldn't work with that imbecile because of his attitude. He is not fit to be president, period. He is all about I have the power and what I says goes, **** you to question me.
a) That is kinda what Presidents do, isnt it? I mean buy Louisiana , Proclamate Emancipation and **** - tell his empoyees they cant fire people based on sexual orientation. I'd guess the list goes on --
b) why should it exempt faith based ortaniations? What makes them beyond the law ?
c) Health Care Reform has been on the table since Teddy Roosevelt. Not exactly the "ram it through" proposition the fist shakers want to make it
d) hey, "we're queer - we're here - deal with it"
e) deal with it

I'd go baseball bat. Not that I've done it, but I think if I was committed to killing someone there would be something more satisfying about doing it with a bat instead of a gat (I made a rhyme!!!!)
Stockholm, more densely populated than NYC - sturg
Presidents have historically been able to distinguish forest from the trees. Some have even played the piano or bowled

That is what heads of state do -- why is it an issue now?
that is where personal international relationships are made --- would you rather someone that has no contact with allies or has no report with foreign diplomats?
Or do you simply parrot the "professional fist shakers."
I love the change of tune from 57 since Bush was doing his EOs.
Gotta love it

I was never one to complain over Bush's use of Exec Orders seeing I was taught it is a Constitutional (implied?) tool at POTUS disposal.
I may have disagreed with what Bush used them for but, not the fact he used them

Everyone must submit. Told you guys.
But again - probably good in the long run for the Church in the West. Not good short-term for those whose convictions differ from 57's and for many they help. Hey, but that's okay, got to "progress."
Labels and such...
Convictions like 57 ????
Live and let live -- not much more complicated than that. No whales or Arks or In the beginnings ... sling shots or Revelations just plain old do unto others -- pretty much it.
I will say this, I wouldn't have moved LaStella to second last night -- I do hold the conviction that if it ain't broke don't fix it
or
I try not to create solutions then expect others to think me smart by looking for a problem

Some people here are fond of putting words in peoples mouths - assigning thoughts and beliefs.
Interesting who does and who doesn't ....

just clicked the link to see the story (thought yall were bitching about EOs)
america, where people think they are being persecuted because they are no longer allowed to hate on someone else
what a country
To answer your question, "yes."
And you know, about your stated conviction - well, I don't think you hold it. Not really.
I don't watch baseball. Check game summaries and box scores from time to time. That's about it. Think they are a player or two away from really competing for going far post-season.
I cannot believe people complain about this.
