1918: In the 21st inning, the Pirates break the longest scoreless game in M.L. history with two runs to defeat the Braves 2-0. The record would stand alone until tied in 1967 by the Giants and Reds.
1923: Harry Frazee, the Broadway producer most known for selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees, sells the Red Sox to a syndicate led by J.A. Robert Quinn.
1941: In a 9-0 Yankees win over the Browns, Lefty Gomez walks 11 batters, setting the record in a shutout.
1945: Mel Ott becomes the third player in M.L. to hit 500 home runs, joining Babe Ruth and Jimmie Foxx.
1962: The Red Sox Bill Monbouquette pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win over the White Sox.
1975: Billy Martin replaces Bill Virdon as Yankees manager. It is the first of five times he'd be hired as the Yankees skipper.
1977: In the Giants 9-2 win over the Expos, Willie McCovey extends his own N.L. record with his 18th career grand slam.
1978: Pete Rose goes 0-4 against the Braves, ending his 44-game hitting streak.
1982: Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson, Travis Jackson, and Happy Chandler are inducted into the Hall of Fame.
1986: The Twins Bert Blyleven records his 3,000th strikeout.
1994: Cal Ripken, Jr. becomes the second player in M.L. history to play in 2,000 straight games.
1998: In the Tigers 8-0 win over the Devil Rays, Tony Clark homers from both sides of the plate for the third time this season, setting a M.L. record.
2002: The Expos trade Cliff Floyd to the Red Sox for two minor league pitchers.
2005: Rafael Palmerio becomes the highest-profile player to be suspended by MLB for violating the league's drug policy. In the Spring of that year, Palmerio testified before Congress, pointing his finger at them, that he never took steroids.
