The story was met by a certain amount of skepticism by some of Trump's defenders around here. Their modus operendi continues to be the averted gaze.
I think the following from the story remains worth pondering:
Trump’s longtime political adviser Roger Stone admitted being in touch with Guccifer over Twitter’s direct messaging service. And in August 2016, Stone published an article on the pro-Trump-friendly Breitbart News calling on his political opponents to “Stop Blaming Russia” for the hack. “I have some news for Hillary and Democrats—I think I’ve got the real culprit,” he wrote. “It doesn’t seem to be the Russians that hacked the DNC, but instead a hacker who goes by the name of Guccifer 2.0.”
How much did Stone and others associated with the Trump campaign including Trump himself know about the identity of the people hacking and disseminating the emails. And to what extent did they actively participate in a scheme to cover up the identities and activities of the perpetrators. And for the legal eagles out there the extent to which it is a crime to cover up or obscure the criminal activities of others while benefiting from such activities.
The last paragraph of the article is both sad and amusing.
Today the most popular counter-narrative surrounding Guccifer 2.0 concedes that the account was a fake persona but posits that it was created by the DNC to support a false-flag operation implicating Russia. In this theory, advanced in two widely cited anonymous blogs, Guccifer 2.0 was the DNC posing as Russia posing as a Romanian hacker.
We are now seeing a similar counter-narrative being pushed by some to the effect that Joseph Mifsud was working for western intelligence as part of a plot to discredit Trump.

I frankly don't blame any foreign country for trying to influence a US election.
It was/is an act of war when we do it as well. I'm not proud of how the CIA overthrew Mossadegh in Iran in the 1950s or how we totally f*cked up Central America with our influence (which is on-going), but that is a deflection from the fact that Roger Stone should spend time in jail.

Its the non aggression pact. When we meddle in any other countries election we lose the right to cry foul when its done to us. I dont care if its the smallest countrt on earth, its the same crime.
Those of you who think election meddling is wrong, do you support extraditing US citizens/government officials who meddled in foreign elections extradited to stand trial in those countries. Of course you dont because we want America to play by different rules.
I would also say that Obama canceling a summit with Putin because Russia gave asylum to Snowden to be the biggest embarrasment in US foreign policy in my lifetime. Lets also not forget Obama kidnapped the leader of a sovreign nation to search for Snowden on his plane. Imagine if Putin forced air force one to land and forcibly searches air force one for a Russian whistleblower. Now thats an act of war.
What I want one of these countries to so is highlight our governments humam rights abuses. I want them to sanction us until we agree to basic reforms. Mass incarceration foe victimless crimes is not acceptable. Bombing 7 countries is not acceptable.
