It's smart of the Braves to stay consistent with their rebuilding plan. Should be worried about 2017 instead of 2015.
Chopping With The Braves And Rolling With The Tide
uribe CAN STILL BE THE 3B next year.....how has that changed.
Playing for a playoff team is probably good for him. He'll sign somewhere that will tell him he can start and he'll try to get a 2 year deal. We could still do that.
Edit....sorry, was trying to quote that heyward quoted....i agree with Heyward on this trade
I really like Kelly Johnson, and really liked what Juan Uribe brought to the Braves, but come on: this team is toast, so how is the trade anything but a good thing?

We dont know if they are scrubs.
But even still, why throw your arms up over trading two players who were FA's to be.
They could very easily sign KJ back for the bench next year, Uribe will probably be more unlikely but who knows. Still, this was a fine move, i dont know what more you could want for two 30+ yr old players whose deals expire.
Here's the thing. I get why this deal is made. I just don't like letting go of a season. I knew it would probably happen, but I like KJ and didn't wanna let him go. He was here when Chipper, Mac, and Smoltz were still around.
2017 better be worth it. But I can't kid myself either. We will likely never see anything better than we already had. The 90's were the glory years of this franchise. We had it so good.
Moving on.... :/
I might would like the trade better if it was July 31st. A week away from the deadline with a lackluster return just reeks of desparation. Kelly and uribe aren't great trade pieces, but they do have some value. I would rather have got 12-15th ranked prospect from a team than 2 guys that aren't well thought of. Again, if it was July 31st, I'd feel differently...
Whalen=Northcraft
Gant=Schlosser
Expectations for players coming back are way too high if people expecting a top-10 prospect for KJ+Uribe.
Seriously, both are rentals and neither are close to high-level talents. Are they useful players? Absolutely, but lets not get carried away here.
We got two more young pitchers, throw enough of them against the wall and see what sticks - lower ceiling players like these are also useful in small deals down the line. Trading for more bonus money, or needing one more C+ prospect to finish off a deal.
We are just building depth at this point, either one of these guys could potentially turn into a decent reliever/long man/back of the rotation starter... isn't that worth KJ/Uribe at this point when the Braves aren't contending?
I have zero issues with this deal; and I don't care at all about trading inner division with rental players. People want a premium for trading with NYM? Why? Is KJ and Uribe going to be standing in our way in 2017 and tipping the balance of power in the division? I wouldn't want to trade young controllable talent in the division, but I don't care about rentals like this.
Who in the world ever said we shouldn't have traded KJ and Uribe, sure as hell wasn't me. I absolutely was on board with trading them and others to not only get prospects but to also better our draft position next year. What I said is I'm disappointed in the return we got.
