Go with what you know. nsacpi, you've said a number of times that you prefer the Cubs approach with stockpiling position players, which looks like it's bearing huge fruit. You cite the relative scarcity of hitting and the ability to easily deal for the pitching you need.

One of the best pieces of investment advice you can give a person, as Paul McCartney's father in law told him back when Paul was trying to work it out, was to "invest in what you know." And of course Paul invested in specific music catalogues, which is how he came to own Michael Jackson, among others.

I think it's undeniable that the Braves know pitching. (How to keep it healthy is another issue.) But we can always peel off some of this great pitching to sign or deal for the C or LF we need to put us over the top. Pitching is our currency. It's what we know. So I guess we just keep doing it.

The Braves now have SEVEN former 1st round pitchers at 24 or younger in the system, most of whom were taken in the top 20: Miller, Folty, Fried, Jenkins, Sims, Touissant, and Allard. Unbelievable.

If they can get Allard signed, the system is absolutely loaded with pitching.

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 14m14 minutes ago
The D-Backs sold Touki Toussaint for $10 million, five months after paying $16 million (with tax) for Yoan Lopez, who is not as good.

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 12m12 minutes ago
Not only that, but the D-Backs have the top international bonus pool. Signing Lopez prevents them any signings above $300K for two years.

Meanwhile, the Braves paid $10 million to add a Top 100 prospect and might blitz the international market in 2016. Way better strategy.

    Truly outstanding.

Imagine what it must be like to be a DBack fan. They have spread their seed all over the league.

I mean, this deal is stupid, but Toussaint may or may not ever do anything. There's a long way to go.

Scherzer, on the other hand, or Upton, I remember looking at them and wondering what the hell they were doing.

They think they're the smartest guys in the room and talk themselves into all kinds of ****.

For the Braves? Easy slam dunk. Take on some salary and trade away an inf who doesn't fit in their plans for a great arm? Sure.

Also true, they've done an amazing job stockpiling the roster with SP prospects the last year.

Bullpen is a whole nother story.

Trade your top pitching prospect for a guy on the DL - where he's expected to remain for the next six to eight weeks (according to Bert)? Yeah, this makes all kinds of sense - not.

I'm beginning to think the bag is a permanent one...

#Dbacks must've felt bad about sending Cahill, decided they'd more than make it up to the #Braves

Wonder if this move could mean a move to the bullpen for Folty?

You suggested that the other day, didn't you?

Makes a lot of sense. Need help in the pen.

He'd be ideal to try my "two innings, not one" standard to try and take some strain off relief arms by having guys go two, pitch and warm up less often.
