Yup. That is why I made the comment I could see newcomb languishing around a 1-2 win pitcher for a season or 2 before having his breakout.

People easily discount the fact that north east pitchers are a little behind others. That's what makes soroka even more impressive.

We have some really good pitchers (scherzer, strasburg, darvish, and Quintana) scheduled against us this week. Would like to have Acuna and camargo for Saturday vs Quintana

Thing is...we are a speed team that hits for average with “some” power. I think we will do fine against them.

It must be fun as hell to be an LAA fan and watch Ohtani and Tron.

OTOH, I've been enjoying Braves baseball (in my qualified, jpxian way) as much as I have in a long time.

Nats on their 6th reliever tonight. Should bode well for tomorrow if we can chase Max.

It's nice to see the Braves have some success in Coors Field. They hadn't won a series here since 2013 (The Coldest Game double header). Sadly, I haven't seen them win there in person since 2014, since even though they have won 4 out of their last 7 games, I went to the three losses.

Newcomb was amazing yesterday. I don't know if this was a deliberate change, but his pitch sequencing was outstanding. Against Ianetta in one at bat - Curve for strike at the bottom, Slider for strike at the bottom, Changeup outside called a ball. Fastball inside for the K. Ianetta had no chance. Many pitchers use their fastball to set up their offspeed stuff, but if you can throw your curve and slider for strikes, you can use them to set up your fastball. Whether it was a deliberate change, or he was just feeling good yesterday, I hope it continues!

It'll test an interesting development so far this season, which is the very low strikeout rate (second lowest in the NL) our lineup has exhibited. Could be a very positive thing about this year's team. If you look at our lineup, it should be a low strikeout lineup. Which can partially make up for things like not having much power.

Low strikeout and high speed guys is a nice combination. But I would say that we have more power then people give us credit for. Its just not homerun power.
