It also helps that Rogue One just wasn't really that good of a film.

I actually really, really liked The Artist, but I happen to love that era of cinema as well. I do however think where the The Artist had some critical teeth was in the fact that it wasn't just a send-up of some era, but tackled more specifically a radically transitional period in cinema; and then it used that basis to probe the evergreen human preoccupation with nostalgia, pastoralism, and senses of worlds passing us by. So, for me at least, The Artist did a lot to rise above mere pastiche and homage (though it incorporated plenty of both, obviously).

But I just wanna mix it up a bit. I've always loved Xmen more than Avengers. I just wish FOX gave them better treatment. Apocalypse was a huge bust after DOFP was amazing.
Apocalypse was a downer following DOFP. Apocaylpse is one of my favorite comic characters ever. Like I said earlier. It's so hit and miss with Fox.

Same for me with Apocalypse. Loved him especially in TAS.

    Impudence. Fools. I am Apocalypse.

Been collecting old XMen 90s comics. Good stuff. DOFP I almost cried in theater it was so good. When the dominos start falling in the present time. Storm. Bishop etc one by one. My only real annoyance with the prequel trilogy is the forced emphasis on Mystique because it's Jennifer Lawrence. It has executive fingerprints all over it. It's silly how in the first few her and Charles you'd never know they know each other then try to give them a backstory. Mystique made sense in DOFP because Trask wanting her DNA for the Nimrod Future Sentinels. But still, have to ugh when they keep trying to make her so important

DOFP was amazing. Definitely Singer's best work. I was so hyped for Apocalypse because he and Mr. Sinister were my favorite villains from the cartoon as well. It ended up being a dud. Now they want to do Phoenix AGAIN. I'm sick of the franchise now. Batman has been rebooted several times now, why the hell can't FOX push Singer out and have some fresh blood? I'm also sick of the prejudice discrimination theme. We've seen it too many times. I want to see purely X-Men v. Bad Guy without exploiting the humans are racist against Mutants stuff.
X3 is a ****ty movie and an abomination to all Comic MOvies. It plain sucks.

I wouldn't call DOFP amazing. It was really good. Probably the best of those films but not without flaws. I mean start with how was Xavier alive? Also how the **** did Mystique's power cause the Sentinels to do what they do? Why wasn't it Rogue? It would have been way better to have a young Rogue be manipulated by Magneto and go from there. THe whole arc of making Mystique a hero because she's played by Jennifer Lawrence is dumb. They could have done a much more interesting film with Rogue as the lynchpin and introduce a new character.

But it was visually stunning and probably the best FX film of the year. COstume, makeup, and hair were all great. And it's Score was great.

I'm not putting this out for best picture, director, etc. But it had tons of greatness in it.

Add in Oscar Isaac as the actor, it was just disappointing.

Though it probably should have been done in a 2 film arc.

And for me the worst thing was Magneto being a horseman. The others are meh, but Magneto makes no sense.

I don't think it's the entire or major point of the movie but I don't think it can be denied a lot of those folks voted for it because it's about an actor trying to find some meaning in his craft.

Really with Birdman, what I should have said is the guy is realizing Hollywood has become so ****ty but actors should stand for something bigger, etc.

I've had a chance to see all nine of the Best Picture nominees now and I think this is the first time in a while all of the nominees have been deserving.

Hard to rank them 1-9, but my top two choices would be Manchester by the Sea and Arrival.

Saw Moonlight last evening. I would say 3/4 or 4/5 stars, but I wouldn't put it on a plateau of greatness. Very well shot. Interesting story. Not being gay or African-American (I hope I didn't let too much slip here), I don't know if it's an accurate depiction of that situation or not. For those worried about the gay angle, don't be. About as understated as it could possibly get. I wouldn't be surprised if it won Best Picture because it seemingly has a lot of late buzz.

zito, good work on seeing them all. I've only missed Hacksaw Ridge and Lion. I'm partial toward Manchester by the Sea myself. Hidden Figures was my favorite picture of the year, but I don't see it as the best picture of the year. I'm guessing Affleck and Stone in their respective lead acting classes. Hugh Grant was robbed for not getting a nomination for his role in Florence Foster Jenkins. Ali and Davis in the supporting actor and actress categories.

That was strange. So I paused earlier to take a bathroom break.

My DVR was 5 minutes behind. So as I was watching and typed "live" I thought everyone was posting La La Land won. Boy what a twist.

I don't think it was Warren or Faye's fault.

He read the card in the envelope. Somehow the card Leo just read off of got into Warren Beaty's hands. He said he was hesitant to announce it and you can see him look back at the the side of the stage to the backstage people before they read it.
