    2015 Salaries Scoreboard

Assuming neither Justin nor Gattis is traded, we've got a max of $6-$10 million left to spend on another SP if Hart so chooses (going by his earlier quote that payroll would be kept close to the same as 2014 - words were "north of $100 million and south of $120 million IIRC). If that $120 is the true ceiling, you have to assume they'll hold at least $5-$6 million back to be able to eat money in a B. J. trade or make an addition before the deadline.

    C- Gattis - $650,000
    1B- Freeman - $8,500,000
    2B- Peraza - $520,000
    SS- Simmons - $3,142,858
    3B- Johnson - $6,000,000

    LF- Justin - $14,500,000
    CF- B. J. - $15,050,000
    RF- Markakis - $11,000,000

    C- Bethancourt - $550,000
    INF- Callaspo - $4,000,000
    INF- Gosselin - $550,000
    OF- Almonte - $550,000
    OF- Toscano - $1,000,000

    SP- Teheran - $1,500,000
    SP- Wood - $650,000
    SP- Miller - $650,000
    SP- Minor - $5,100,000
    SP- ??? - $???

    CL- Kimbrel - $9,500,000
    SU- Carpenter - $1,100,000
    SU- Simmons - $550,000
    RP- Johnson - $2,500,000
    RP- Russell - $2,400,000
    RP- Shreve - $550,000
    RP- Varvaro - $650,000

    Uggla - $13,000,000

    Estimated Total - $104,162,858

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

According to Cots Teheran is at $1M and Kimbrel is at $9M, but otherwise those numbers (if not the exact names) pretty much match what I have. I think a LHed bat for the bench that can play 3B will also be brought in.

I wonder if Russell gets moved. Not that he's particularly good or bad, but it may be a place where they can save a million or so and roll that into the LH bat Enscheff is talking about and the hole in the starting rotation. Of course, they could try Hale, Northcraft, etc., as the fifth starter.

I further wonder what the incentive structure for Johnson is. I'd love to pay him the whole $2.5 million if the $900,000 in incentives is based on him being pretty good.

Guys like Callaspo, Russell, and Johnson could be flipped at mid-season. It could be an interesting mid-season. We could be sellers. Or we could be looking to upgrade positions where guys (like CJ and Melvin) have significant contracts.

My reading of the hints from the front office is that payroll will be around 115M. It would be smart to keep 5-10M of that in reserve, which would imply an opening day payroll in the 105-110M range.

I always count all potential performance bonuses on my spreadsheet - possibly the difference in some instances.

If Callaspo is playing 2B I would like to see someone with more of a platoon advantage vs RHers brought in to platoon with CJ.

That would make some sense on the surface, but I've got to figure they're done spending money on offense unless trades go down. Just figure that if they think the team could actually compete for a wildcard as constructed (if all the stars align of course), they'll want to devote all remaining cash to bringing in the best available #5 SP they can land.

As funny as it sounds to say it, if we saw some level of improvement from B. J., Johnson, Andrelton, and Freeman, gambling a one year $10 million investment for a Masterson or McCarthy would make that a pretty formidable rotation and COULD give them as good a shot as anyone else at finishing second in the Division.

    Agree.

The division will be better. 88 wins or so could win the division. Who knows what will happen for the WC. We have guys who could improve that you listed. We have young guys who could improve. Minor should be better. As always there is a balance and there will be guys that could be worse.

But it's not crazy to think this team plus a good 5th starter could be in the race. Nobody would bet on it, but it's not crazy.

Chris Johnson makes 6 million a year and BJ makes 14? this is the kind of list that makes it hard to give a ****.

BJ makes 15.05 mill this year. Bj/CJ combine for 23.5 mill in 2016 and 26 million in 2017.

With Markakis, it is 37M in 2017.

The way we assume the front office allots his bonus for accounting purposes, yes. However, he's already been paid the bonus - the $14,450,000 would be the salary someone else would pay if he were traded.

Hale would be the 5th SP at ~$600,000 IF another Pitcher isn't signed. All signs point to us looking for another starter though - Hart himself has said that we may sign a Pitcher before Justin and/or Gattis are traded IF either is.

"Players who have signed more than one contract (renewed players like Hale) will be paid $81,500 plus a cost of living adjustment, rounded to the nearest $100, provided that the cost of living adjustment shall not reduce the minimum salary below $81,500" while not on the major league roster according to the Basic Agreement. That $81,500 was the minimum last season, so Hale would make less than $90,000 if he were left in Gwinnett to stay stretched out in case of injury.
