I agree. Just saying it may not have been a terrible trade for either side.

Because you actually want 20.3% or higher as it was league average last year and line drives give by far the best results, especially for a speed guy.

I'm assuming that's where it was when the post was made? He's at 25% now which is a more than acceptable number.

I think there gets to be a really tenuous projection that Albies will automatically become the next Altuve. People don't realize that Altuve didn't become a double-digit HR guy until his fourth full season. Further, if you look at their body types, Altuve is much more compact and while in and of itself that doesn't mean everything, Altuve seems to have a body that would generate more power (although it wouldn't necessarily be "easy" power). It was nice to see Albies hit that low-and-away pitch and take it out of the park, but I worry that makes him think he can do that consistently.

It reminds me of a Sunday night baseball games years ago when the Braves were playing the Red Sox and Francouer pulled an low-and-outside pitch that looked to be six inches off the ground and foot outside and hit a screaming line drive just over the left field fence. My initial thought was "Great! Braves lead!" My second thought was "Crap! Now Francoeur is going to try to pull that same pitch over and over and over." I don't think Albies is going to pull a Francoeur on us, but he does have to be mindful of his strengths and weaknesses as he develops. Chicks dig the long ball, but they don't dig medium-deep easy-play flyballs.

I think Albies has enough awareness to know that he is never going to be a 30 homer guy. At least I hope he does. But I think if he refines his approach a little bit and starts being a little more selective, he will start hitting more line drives and that will lead to 15 homer power. Altuve has put up ISOs right around .200 for the last 3 seasons. I think Albies will be more in the .180-.190 range but that is PLENTY for his profile.

And increased power may come with time for Albies. I just think everyone--including Albies--has to exercise a little patience on that front. If the opposition thinks Albies is overswinging, they will have a field day.

He had hit 12% line drives at the time of that post. MLB average is typically around 20%. Albies likely needs to be above that to be an above average hitter.

And suddenly after last night his LD rate is at 25%. Albies will be fine.

Albies is good. Albies is going to be very good. He probably won't become Altuve because Altuve is a freakish MVP-level player.

I still like the more aggressive Betts (meaning more Ks) comp for Albies I came up with a while ago.

This was my reaction every time Furcal went deep. Each homer seemed to screw him for a week or more until he remembered he wasn't Dave Kingman.

As fine a catch that Eaton made yesterday, it was another warning track fly ball to the opposite field for Albies. That's not a recipe for success for him.

That ball was tattooed. It wasn't a fly ball more than it was on the line. Eaton had to get on his horse. Ozzie will hit his share of fly balls but I hope they don't tinker too much. He'll adjust as he sees more pitching.

    3 homers already.

On pace for 42 over 600 ABs.

I believe Keith Law said he wasn't sure if this much power was in there.

The young man is only 20.

    Correa/Lindor/Altuve level superstar?

Dude has about as high of a floor as a young guy can have. This isn't his best and yet he still has a wRC+ over 120.

Really, it's started out like it did last August for him, just with less patience. Odds are it's going to balance itself out again (he's not hitting 54 HR lol), and hopefully while it does he finds some patience. At this point I think his end point ends up being somewhere around .280 BA wise with 30 doubles/20 HR/10 triples.

Aggression with prospects is fine, but being stupid is not. There should be a way to find a happy medium between a Pirates like idea of being overly cautious with prospects and going stupidly fast with prospects.

Altuve may be a low ball estimate of his potential.
