Good thing we were firing the guy that wasn't rebuilding correctly.

We should have fired him before the Wood\Olivera swap.

Good find. Makes sense. This is widespread to some degree. Seems Coppy went nuts. Interesting

Me too, but there’s enough chatter about it now that I’m getting worried.

If it's just prospects, and international penalties, whatever.

I guess with Austin Riley absolutely raking and set to come up soon, potentially losing Maitan wouldnt hurt as much if he proves to be legit.

But if they dip into other prospects and draft picks, thats just going way, way too far with this.

I wonder if there is any point where the Braves could consider legal action over an unfair punishment, or even over how long this is being dragged out.

There probably is some recourse they could take if they think the punishment is unfair. I don't know of what contracts exist between MLB and the Braves and what they provide for. There could be all sorts of arbitration agreements or limiting the right of the Braves to sue. But ultimately I have to think the Braves probably have something they could do. Whether they would exercise that right is a different question.

As for MLB dragging it out, that's less likely. It's hard to maintain an action for someone not doing something that would hurt you.

Though attenuating the process and delaying final judgment could be seen as a form of punishment in itself, since it hampers the Braves' ability to run their organization. However, if the punishment ebbs to the lighter side, it's like the Braves will just shut up and be happy; and if it errs to the heavier, they'll have plenty of other grounds for complaint—so either way it's unlikely to be raised as an issue.

Same. I initially thought he was safe. Think Derian Cruz might be in trouble as he trained with two other INT signees thatcouldve been a bundle deal. Thought the rest would be 7/2/17 signees.

Could still be right, I guess. However, like you said, there’s more chatter and it’s making me second guess Maitan being safe.

The Braves can appeal any punishment, but unfortunately that appeal will be heard by Roger Goodell.

Bowman now saying 'Maitan and Bae are among the prospects who could be lost." He had Gutierrez in that group earlier in the week.

Losing Bae isn't a big deal to me. Keith Law called him a utility infielder at best before. If we can sacrifice him and keeping some of the Latin American prospects instead, I'll be thrilled with that.

If the investigation is over then they need to quit dragging their feet and tell us the punishment.

I think they are taking their time because this is a precedent-making case. Among the violations that are potentially being punished:

    1) Bundling. I think there the precedent was set in the Red Sox case.

    2) Arranging or paying for housing for a player prior to being officially signed. New precedent.

    3) Any potential circumvention of signing rules for players taken in the draft. Potential new precedent.

    4) Violation of rules about tampering with major league players. Potential new precedent.

One of the stories mentioned Coppy calling an agent in August to express an interest in a player who was going to be a free agent. I don't believe the player's name was ever revealed.

Coppy seems to have had issues with impulse control. Maybe he can plead medical disability or something when he sues the Braves.

We definitely tampered with Kemp before dealing for him. Should negate that trade immediately.

My guess is it was Seand Rodriguez and that was partly why he was traded back to Pittsburgh. I have zero evidence to back that up tho
