I thought because Simmons was hurt, we might be getting him back. There's always Kubitza and Cunningham.

Hmm, wonder if the conversation started with offering Aybar back to them now that Andrelton's out for a lengthy period. Oh well.

Here's a write-up on McCreery from an Angels' fan site. Interesting. As per usual, another TJ surgery vet (this time when in high school).

Seriously. For as much as I see on this board that we need to be more forward thinking, I think giving Williams Perez a chance to make it as a MLB starter rather than AAA starter has much more value than holding out for a big prospect haul for Chacin. If Perez can establish himself, then six years of pre-FA of a young backend starter is far more valuable than a veteran retread rental.

I'm not upset about this or anything but I don't see why we traded him so quickly. He could have built(or lost) value. But I don't care that much.

Eh, I would have held out in hopes of building more value closer to the deadline. But in the grand scheme of things it isn't that critical. This guy seems like a decent relief prospect, and who knows, may be we think we think we can turn him into a starter. He certainly has the frame to be a work horse.

Or msy be we are really trying to tank for No. 1 overall in 2017.

Not a fan of this trade. From ST through now, Chacin has had maybe 2 bad starts? Not sure why we were so anxious to trade him for a lottery ticket.

I think I would have held out for more value, but really.... whatever, there's never going to be much of a market for a guy like JC and the Braves probably figured they wanted to get something for him.

Sounds like he has size and a good fastball. So there's at least something to work with there.

First thing first, Perez is never going to be more than a AAAA starter or long relief guy at the MLB level. There is no reason to give him a chance to prove anything.

Maybe this tall lefty turns into a decent LOOGY, who knows. Maybe Coppy is having visions about Grilli's trade value vanishing so didn't want to wait with Chacin, who knows. Maybe they've just had a hard-on for this kid for years and wanted to snatch him up.

McCreery and Joseph Daris were teammates at Azusa Pacific. A 6'8" lefty that throws in the mid 90s.

Then why bother reading or posting in the thread?

You spend a lot of time whining about the perceived "whiners"—not just in this thread, but generally—so why even torture yourself by clicking on any thread where you think there might be a smidge of dissent with what the front office has done?

Not a big fan of Baby Harang. Like its been mentioned, I think he is a AAAA pitcher, maybe long relief. But I am not opposed to bringing him up for a few weeks, then bringing up a Jenkins

We traded him quickly because this is when the Angels wanted him.

Though, to be fair, Chacin is more like a scuffed-up Seiko with some gum stuck to it that you're still trying to clean off. The point remains valid—why give it up for a dime when you might be able to get seventy-five cents next Thursday—but I also have to think the Braves were unlikely to get that much more than they just did.

The best part of the trade is that the Angels could only trade up Kotchman once.

Mcreery is the kind of pitcher that could go from A-ball to the majors in one year if he puts a couple things together. Lefty specialists are strange in that way.

First thing first, Perez is never going to be more than a AAAA starter or long relief guy at the MLB level. There is no reason to give him a chance to prove anything.
First of all, you are making assumptions. He could become a back end starter. I am far from being a WP optomist, but lost seasons offer a unique opportunity that you don't get in competitive ones where you give guys like Perez, Weber, and Gant chances to see if they can stick. I prefer that approach then hanging around the waiver wire looking for veteran retreads that might build up trade value, so you might have a shot at a marginally better prospect at the deadline. Chacin isn't going to be a part of next year's staff, but maybe one of these other guys could be.

The only reason I think it's a bad trade is because players like Chacin could be packaged with players like Aybar and KJ to a contender for a prospect that is at least decent. Kinda like how KJ and Uribe were packaged together to get Gant...you know, an actual prospect.
Maybe. It's an interesting proposition, but why not give Gant a chance in the rotation and see if he's actually indeed actual

Maybe this tall lefty turns into a decent LOOGY, who knows. Maybe Coppy is having visions about Grilli's trade value vanishing so didn't want to wait with Chacin, who knows. Maybe they've just had a hard-on for this kid for years and wanted to snatch him up.
Honestly, I think this this trade is more about giving younger pitchers a shot in the rotation, then it was about the return. Trading Chacin now gives the team an opportunity to get something out of Chacin instead of DFA'ing later in the year to make room for Jenkins or Sims when they are ready.
