Most of our projected guys at 21 are uninspiring, so I'd take him there on an over-slot deal to prevent him from going to LSU for football.

Most of the guys projected at 9 are uninspiring, as well. I guess I'd take the highest upside high school bat.
If Bishop is gone at 9 then I want Carroll, I want nothing to do with Rutledge.

Pipeline has us taking Jackson Rutledge at 9 but adds this “There’s some buzz they might go the high school bat route, namely Corbin Carroll, in this spot.”

They have us taking unc Greensboro SS greg Jones at 21. Seems like most believe he’s moving to CF eventually.

Should be a lot of mocks out this morning.

Baseball America says latest buzz has us going college pitcher at 9 and they give us Rutledge. Say we are also interested in Manoah, bishop and Carroll but latest buzz is college pitcher.

They give us Quinn Priester at 21. Would love him there, especially if we go bat at 9.

Unless someone (Bleday, Greene, or Abrams) unexpectedly slides, kinda hoping for Carroll and Priester at this point.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Keith Law mock is out, and it's the dream scenario. He has us taking Corbin Carroll at 9 and Quinn Priester at 21.

He says that Carroll and Shea Langeliers are the top targets at 9, "assuming Manoah is off the board" as Law has him 8 to Texas. He says we've cooled on Rutledge and Bishop.

He "really thinks" we go pitcher at 21, even if we take one at 9.

Looking back at some of Law's write ups, I forgot he has Carroll as the 4th best prospect in this draft. This part of his Caroll write up is particularly interesting: "He has the hand strength and swing to get to above-average power down the road, with his arm the only tool that doesn't project to more than average. He's 5 foot 10 and a bit small, which I keep hearing as a negative, but if he were 6 foot 3 he'd be in the mix to go first overall. Given how many hitters who are under 6 feet but have the hand and wrist strength to drive the ball are succeeding in the majors, this should be a non-issue."

If that's all true, he should be our no brainer pick at 9.

I really wanted a hitter at 9 but i can see the need for pitching.

Newk and Touki have moved to the pen maybe long-term. Soroka is called up. Who knows when Gohara will pitch. Wright has gotten taken to the woodshed in AAA. Wilson may be a pen arm.

That leaves what, Ian Anderson, Muller, and a couple others.

BA says college pitcher is the latest buzz, Pipeline says high school bat... I've got my latest buzz too... we may pick a college bat or high school pitcher too

It’s amazing how all that pitching depth has just vanished.

It's also why i would have tried to sell some last winter, pitchers trade value can vanish quickly.

Also why i'm not against going out and signing a SP this winter.

who would you have sold? what if you sold the wrong 1 or 2?
it's impossible to guess what will happen with them. the reason you build depth in the first place is because you know some won't pan out. selling the wrong one and keeping the wrong one exacerbates this issue big time.

i think the Braves are likely to go with either a college bat or pitcher, or a high school bat or pitcher. really tough to say definitively, but i'd put money on it being one of them.

I think they go hitter or pitcher at 9 and 21, i dont think they double up at pitcher or hitter.

Jaseel, Tarnok, Vodnik, and Kingham are all a ways away but have tons of talent and ability... they have also shown they can translate that ability to the field thus far and adjust. Weigel will be good after he gets used to the feel post surgery. I don't think the pitching shortage is as huge as you're making it out.

It's not decimated by any means but it's taken a hit. Guys like Newk, Touki, Wright, Gohara, Wilson have taken a fall and they were projected for better.

Most prospects are all projected for better. Wright is far from finnish... he's still going to be very good I think. He's just a mess mechanically right now. Wilson has a long way to go before considering him finnish also. Who knows what the heck is gonna happen with Gohara. I don't think Touki is going to the pen for his career either... more of a David Price type progression. We all thought Newk would probably end up being in the pen and he's been dominant there so I'm fine with that.

I like Touki in the pen, who knows if it's a long-term thing. But we all knew some of these prospects that didnt pan out as a SP would have to go to the pen.

Touki seems better in the pen imo though.

I think Touki's stuff is too good to give up on him being a SP... I think he'll still be given every chance next year or later this year to start every 5th day again.

I don't perceive the pitching situation to be any worse now than it was when the season began.

Not at all... I still see our system as plenty stocked pitching wise
