Braves: Braden Shewmake, SS, Texas A&M
Shewmake's hand-eye coordination ranks with the best in this Draft. He's got an unorthodox approach at the plate, but he still barrels the ball with ease. He can add some more strength to his 6-foot-4 frame and has the leverage to develop at least average power. The son of Texas-Dallas coach Shane Shewmake, Braden has great instincts that help his average speed play up in the field and on the bases.

AA not winning many supporters these days. "Saved" money by signing Markakis to give us flexibility we didn't use. Made zero signings to aid the bullpen. Fired Bridges, and replaces him with a scouting director that thinks Langeliers is worth 9 and Shewmake is worth 21.

I like that the Braves are now more analytics driven. But, I'm not sure how well analytics are suited to projecting amateur talent.

How can you have two first rounders, one a top ten, and yet end up with an F of a first round? Just incredible

First Austin Hedges for Langeliers and now Tettleton for Shewmake. Keep those great comps coming!

On a side note, it's always hard to tell what teams' draft boards look like, but I am seeing an inkling of some hoped-for underslot deals with the recent picks.

AA is a lousy GM. Always has been.

I’d also be curious to see how Shewmake is an analytics darling.

I doubt it. I personally think Pache is in right or center next year. This kid will need to develop his game for any possible move to the outfield. I’ll be curious whee he plays in the rookie league after he signs, assuming he does.

The Astros, Rays and Dodgers seem to be kicking ass with this approach.

Got Toronto to the ALCS. I'd be happy if we just advanced to the next round of anything.

He also didn't unload Riley and Soroka. So that's good.

i will say, if you swing and miss on two 1st round picks, one being top-10, that’s really hard to come back from. i have to think they legitimately like these guys. that’s a huge gamble. time will tell if they’re onto something.

Really? I didn't realize they relied so heavily on analytics when scouting amateur talent.

He looks like a ball-in-play guy to me. Doesn't walk or K much with the possibility of average power. Maybe that's the new market inefficiency.

I don’t like either pick all that much, but I like how we are committed to an analytics based draft approach. If you aren’t willing to trust your models enough to make decisions based off of them then what’s the point of having them?

Besides, the guys we pick were ballpark of where Klaw had them ranked on his big board so it’s not as if these guys are completely out of left field.

He seems like a utility type but i'm not sure you take those types with a top 21 pick...

Reasonable take after the Braves won the NL East, are 1 game off the division lead this year, and haven’t traded away a single prospect of note to accomplish it.

    Lousy!!

If he turns out to be Ben Zobrist, we wouldn't be able to complain much.
