He just didn’t care. I remember a game we played in Cincy and he picked a ball up in the rcf gap and literally threw it from rcf toward the lf line, if I’m remembering correctly. He was the definition of a hot mess that season.

I think the reason was that he was obviously out of shape the year he was with us and was noticeably worse than he was before we traded for him despite the fact he should have been in his prime. Then after he left he improved greatly and then failed a drug test. All of that adds up to him being really popular.
