Fair enough, maybe if he has another average season at the plate he will. I would have been happy to give him 20M per year. I just think that there are too many FO's who really believe in the advanced fielding metrics that Jason will get a huge splash somewhere.

I would love to make 15 million a year just based off of my potential. Never really having to accomplish much. Such a terrible job.

If we go with mostly a flyball pitching staff along with Markakis in right, BJ in center, and Gattis in left. Then that outfield will probably rank as bad as you'll see with regard to range. None of them have much range at all. But when compared to Markakis and Gattis, BJ's range looks quite good even though it isn't for his position.

Other than the fact that Heyward is a great player in a lot of ways, and his bat isn't even bad (just has more upside than he showed last year), you have a fantastic point.

Yeah...I think we will see Markakis miss plenty of plays that Heyward would have made, or runners taking extra bases, etc.

And Nick will make up for it by getting on base better than Jason.

Considering Heyward has a better OBP each of the least two seasons (and has room to grow that Markakis doesn't)...I have my doubts.

Wanna make a bet on who has a better OBP in 2015?

Last 2 seasons Jason had a .351 OBP, Markakis at .335. You still sure you want to make that bet?

Whatever he gets, I will still think it was a mistake not to extend him years ago. If he makes $30m a year, then that decision will look even dumber.

And if Wren hadn't signed Melvin Upton, we could have given Heyward his own county in Georgia. The current administration is taking a lot of heat (and I've even seen a couple of posts bemoaning Wren's departure), but they inherited a pretty dicey situation thanks to a couple of really odd (and destructive) decisions made by Wren.

THIS I fully agree with. I have no idea why he wasn't locked up 2 or 3 years ago. It's almost as if the arrival of Hart in late 2013 precipitated the series of long-term extensions (and that the FO - really McGuirk to be honest - was averse to said concept) -- which, by then, was too late to bring Heyward's agent to the table in earnest.

I do feel comfortable in JC's hands going forward, though.

Given Wren's other moves, I don't think BJ reeks of Wren, unless it was done as a way to keep us off of Justin's no-trade list. I would think given most of Wren's moves being for more sabermetric skilled players, that keeping Bourn would have been better off. I think signing BJ had a lot to do with the Brass wanting BJ given him being younger and having a higher upside than Bourn.

Now we are talking about something different. I would have loved to extend him a while ago. Sadly, that wasn't done so its just a matter of understanding if the right decision was made this offseason. If Heyward does get that much then it was the right move to trade him.

So are you trying to pin the BJ signing on JS and co then?

No, but I get the feeling that many of Wren's bigger moves had to be run up the flagpole, so I think if they made a suggestion he acted upon it.

Kind of seems like you are but JS and Co seem to be pinning a bunch of Wren so this type of game is fair play for sure.

I'd give Fredi a 10 year contract if it meant getting rid of McGuirk.
