Hey guys we are rolling. Youthful high energy is killing it on offense. Hey I have an idea. Let’s throw and old wash up right in the middle and watch it take off. What could go wrong.

I'm trying to be open-minded about this move, but I think there's a less then 50% chance this goes well. My biggest concern is Bautista's defense at 3B. We are willfully downgrading our defense at that position now, which I just don't get. Camargo and Flaherty are better all-around options. The best argument for Bautista is around the 5 DH games in May, but I'd be fine with Tucker or D Pete getting the DH ABs in Tampa and Boston.

I generally like moves that help depth, but this just seems like we're bending over backwards to find a fit with Bautista specifically. Hope he proves me wrong.

Guys like him demand you at least pay attention.....With Chipper, when he was struggling, teams still respected his power and it affected the line up....I don't think that is something tangible you see on a a stat line.

I'm all for the move, mainly because it costs us next to nothing.

It's fun to say this stuff, but it's just not accurate. Chipper never had a year even close to what Bautista did last season.

I'm not saying I hate the move either. Just hope the front office is willing to move on quickly if it doesn't work out.

I agree he shouldn't have a long leash. But I believe there are aspects to him being on the team that benefit us that you may not see on a stat line.

For instance, he is credited with helping Encarnacion when he came to the Blue Jays. Maybe he passes along some knowledge to Acuna and Albies....

Yeah, those 2 need some direction. They are really lost at the moment.

I miss Chipper—maybe bring him back instead. Added bonus is playing would keep him off Twitter.

It wouldn't be the first time the Braves have squeezed blood from a stone.

I'm excited to see him play.

    This, this, and more this.

In a punted year, what's the harm?

Yes, lots of us would like to see more of Camargo, but I think this leadership hierarchy (particularly AA) has earned the benefit of the doubt on this one. They've pretty much pushed all the right buttons for a month and it's landed them in 1st.

For whatever reason, somebody doesn't want to see Johan in there everyday. I don't get it either, but they're there and I'm not. Maybe they're afraid he gets exposed if the opposition develops a better book on him, who knows?

Most everybody was on board with being patient for one more year, now that they've far exceeded expectations for a month everyone's suddenly worried about ruining chemistry (which I thought more than a few people say doesn't exist anyway)?

You're never able to figure out what in-season addition put a particular team over the top without the benefit of hindsight, You can't catch lightning in a bottle if you don't try, and AA apparently doesn't believe some mix of Flaherty and Camargo is that lightning that might be enough to put this team into contention for much.

I have no problem with rolling these dice either, but hope that he's willing to pull the plug the minute it doesn't look like it's working.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Too bad they optioned Tucker instead of Culbertson.

I can't see this going over well. Hope in wrong, but from the little I saw of his 3b defense, it was rough to be generous.

I'm perfectly fine with him taking up a bench spot. Culberson is dead weight. With Camargo and Albies both having the ability to play short, a back up SS is not necessary. Or trade Flaherty and let Joey Bats take over his role. Sending Tucker down is dumb.

Not exactly, other angles show that he was a bit dazed and Beltre came in fast holding him upright. But he did stay up either way after taking a pretty solid punch.

I'm amazed it didn't drop him, so credit where credit is due, but it clearly put some tweety birds in orbit around his dome.

Yea, Odor got him pretty solid there so not going down straight away deserves some credit. But I remember seeing the Texas feed showing him looking dazed after and the Texas announcers showing an angle which showed Beltre seemingly having to hold him up a bit.

Speaking of credit where it’s due: I get not loving Bautista, for various reasons (though I’ve always been a fan, myself); but it mystifies me that more disapprobation and disdain isn’t directed at Odor. I personally think he’s a substantially douchier player—and that sucker-punch is a great example of it.

Odor hasn't hit much in recent years to go along with his bad defense at second. Odor's defense at second cost Texas in the playoffs multiple times. Back when he was still hitting, they should've moved him to LF for his bat. Now I would hardly play him if I was them, he strikes out a lot swinging at everything the last I saw. It's no wonder Texas is so bad now.
