I would not go 'all in' per se, but I wouldn't be afraid to pay handsomely. A lot would hinge on whether or not he could be extended.

We match up well with the Cubs. The gaps in their rebuilding project are at catcher and pitching. We can help them there. We should offer them Bethancourt plus any three of our minor league pitchers not named Sims or Cabrera.

Not so much heresy as questionable in the sense we add a pitcher (while already having 5 solid starting pitchers) while creating a hole in the OF (where we do not have a replacement). It might make sense but only if there is a second trade to get an outfielder. Maybe we then flip a pitcher to a team with extra outfielders (such as the Dodgers).

Mentioned this last year, i dont see him signing an extension with us, so might as well get some value for him.

Instead of watch him walk for a pick in the 30-40's in 2 years.

Consider: Sale is LH. So are Minor and Wood.

Would that portend anything? Trumbo has played the OF. Ibanez can play LF. Gattis didnt hurt us in LF contrary to some arguments we get.

I would think Sale would require much more than just Heyward and truthfully we dont have that much to offer.

I think Samardzija would be the perfect pitcher for McDowell to mold.

They might take Uggla. They have Darwin Barney at 2b, who sucks, and could possibly sample the kool aid that Uggs will rebound in the smaller ballpark (not true, when he hits it, its gone). We'd have to eat some $, but everybody knows that already. Maybe Beth, Graham, Popeye, and $$$.

Does Heyward for Sale, and Minor for Trumbo leave us better?

    What about...

Wood, Northcraft, Martin, Terdo, Varvaro for Russell and Samadizja.

I've been one of the few interested in going to get Samardzija for a while (before the deadline the last two years as a matter of fact). I'd agree that he's the type of guy that McDowell would be a good fit for - he's been really good with coaxing that "next step" from Minor, Medlen, and Teheran thus far.

That said, I don't think Sale wouldn't be a fit because he's a LHP, nor do I think he's going to require Heyward in return. I actually think we match up pretty well with the Southsiders. While Wood/Bethancourt/Sims/Peraza isn't likely enough to get Price, I wouldn't hesitate to make the same offer for Sale, and could be convinced to include another "B" arm to land him.
Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...

Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?

Would hate parting with Wood but I would do it.

    Sims is untouchable.

Northcraft, Martin, Terdoslavich, and Varvaro have very little trade value - they're throw-ins.

That would work if Theo and Jed are trying to get fired.

    Nobody's "untouchable" - that's GM-speak.
