    Hurricane Matthew

Just a heads up for anyone on the coast even from Georgia to South Carolina to watch out. The storm surge is going to be pretty intense there.

It's looking more and more likely that it won't make landfall in the US. Impacts may not be more than a slow moving nor'easter. Still though if you live on the coast and are in the cone of uncertainty of a major hurricane then you need to git.
    thank you weso1!

This makes two tropical storms and now a looming major hurricane since I left the Lowcountry of South Carolina six months ago. Most of the people I know have gone to Atlanta or Columbia. A couple are staying behind, though. Also have an aunt and uncle in the Charleston suburbs.

But somehow the University of South Carolina thinks it's just fine to play a football game this weekend.

Thought I might have mentioned it a while back? Have you evacuated or are you riding it out?

Riding it out. I live near downtown savannah which is much more elevated than other parts. Charts showing it'd need to be a cat 4 flooding to flood.my house. Looks like it'll be cat 2 by the time it hits.

If it stays cat 4 or stronger I probably will just leave though.

finally finding some pics from Baracoa, Cuba that took a direct hit

Visited this small town this year in June and a lot of my pics were from there. heartbreaking to say the least

Actually had some drinks and food in this building in June:

I moved from Charleston about a month ago, but my entire immediate and extended family is still there and literally none of them evacuated. My parents live Downtown and apparently most of the neighborhood is staying around too. They all rode out Hugo, so the mentality is that it couldn't possibly get any worse. Of course, most Charlestonians (including my family) did attempt to evacuate during Hurricane Floyd but it was absolutely botched - and then the hurricane didn't even cause major flooding. I think it took us 9 hours just to get to Columbia on backroads. Others had it far worse. So maybe a bit of that factoring into their decision making process, although everything appears to have gone swimmingly with the reversal of I-26. Kudos to Nimrata on that one.

Will be watching this one real close.

Likely to be major flooding from Savannah up toward Wilmington, NC. The hurricane has a decent chance to make landfall between Savannah and Charleston before riding along the coastline.
    thank you weso1!

Ha. I would have but the mayor of Tybee used to be my teacher in high school. Definitely would have loved to ride it out there.
