All Braves fans need to admit that choosing to not sign more relievers, but instead to go through this shaky bullpen patch, is making the pen stronger. It's sorting itself out, letting the cream rise to the top and giving the rookies invaluable in game experience. We might all want to hold our breath but if this current group could just stay healthy for a while...

I don’t think Bumgarner will end up returning a whole lot.

Doesn’t mean I particularly want to get him.

I think he’s better by a good bit than Julio Teheran, but upgrading your fifth starter isn’t necessarily the move. I guess when you consider that 2/5 of the rotation will have career high innings, a veteran who might be credible starter in playoffs makes some sense though.

It's the playoffs I am worried about. My sanity can't take yet another bullpen meltdown in the playoffs.

I think trading Inciarte would be fine though I don’t know that he has much value. The sheer joy of not having to pay him in future seasons might be worth it alone.

Gausman actually makes sense as a trade candidate this offseason due to his future arb number but can’t really justify trading him for MB. That doesn’t make much sense.

I think the Giants would be a perfect fit for Ender.

I just don't think there's a chance the Giants are interested in Ender or Duvall like everyone keeps bringing up. Their front office seems to have a good understanding that they are heading into a long-term rebuild. Why would they want to trade for aging players?

i have no idea why people keep bringing up inciarte and duvall as long-term fits in SF. it makes very, very little sense.

No way I trade ender. My boy, Riley has been on fire, but who knows when he comes back to earth and then his defense becomes a major liability. I wanna flip camargo and duvall for a while to platoon some in rf to give markakis more time off. I'm fine with the platoon partner being camargo, but it doesn't seem we trust him in rf

Its a combination of the old desire to trade spare parts for another team's value, and San Frans past unwillingness to enter a rebuild when it was clearly time. I agree that they are better aware of where they're at this time.

Kimbrel in last year's playoffs would have pushed you over the edge if he were pitching for the Braves.

Sure it can, and I believe you've got the perfect medicine for it.

Unless the Giants trade Posey they aren’t rebuilding. If they continue to attempt to reload, it might make sense for them to swap a few months of a BP arm for an immediate part time MLB contributor like Duvall. Whether or not Duvall is cheap enough to make sense is certainly open for debate.

I think it’s crystal clear they need to tear it down though, and has been for a while now.

There are like 3-4 teams in the MLB in desperate need of a tear down that is just completely unwilling to even entertain the idea. I'll never understand how a team can be awful one year with aging veterans and/or expiring contracts and somehow think they are still in a position to compete.

I know some people really hate the idea of tanking, but in baseball sometimes its really really necessary. Especially under the current CBA.

Man, I'm not even sure what tearing it down would really do for them at this point.

They have assets, especially in the bullpen. If they started selling off they could build a nice little farm in a couple of years. Posey has some value. Belt has a little value. Crawford has been terrible this year, but he's still one of the best defenders in the NL so he'd have some value. It would definitely be a tougher and longer rebuild than we had, but they could pull it off if they committed to it.

Their farm is bad, and they dont have a sense of direction.

Alot of their bullpen guys, Crawford, Posey, Shark, Belt, Bumgarner all have some value. They could replenish the farm very quickly if their ownership committed to doing it.

And that's the problem with waiting too long. They have so little of value now, what's the point in tearing it all down?

The main point would be getting 2-3 draft picks in the Top 3-5 range over the next couple years I guess.

I suspect they go about "reloading" by flipping all of their rental guys at the deadline until they clear enough payroll to splurge in the FA market in hopes of getting another impact player they can build around...like they did with Bonds. If they can avoid trading any of the impact prospects they do manage to draft, they have the spending capacity to jump into contention a lot like the Phillies did. The Phillies just laid out the blueprint of getting a few good young home grown players, and then splurging in the FA market to build an immediate (short term) contender.
