So that's more like 18 per year when you consider it's really closer to 2.5 years

    Good job AA.

    Wasn't worth that tbh.

Cubs can take the risk of having only 7% of their payroll be a high paid closer. Whereas we can't take the risk of having close to 15-20% of our payroll be invested in an aging closer.

Was fine with rest of this year, Braves cant do that much for a closer. Big market team like CHC can.

We've probably got something similar tied up in O'Day and Viz/T-Sweezy. I know it's not exactly the same and just this year, but...

Not sure Cubs can either. They are pushing in. I like them going for it. They addressed a big need but still need to up grade more pen help.

Kimbrel, Cichek, Morrow, Strop is a decent backend of the bullpen.

Precisely the type of deal the Braves were wise to steer clear of.

Looks like there is a vesting option for another year. No thank you.

    Rental relievers should be cheap

If its based on effectiveness than i dont see a reason why a vesting option is a bad thing

Some people don't understand the concept of inelastic demand. When the choice is between getting what you need or getting nothing, you'll overpay. You're not going to refuse to pay for life saving medicine because you think it's overpriced.

I'm not saying we should have overpaid for Kimbrel. I'm saying we can't pass on everything we think is overpriced or we'll never field a great team.

Of course, the Braves brass probably doesn't to add much payroll right now.

we will pay a contenders premium when we trade for a reliever...but I'd rather do that than take on the kind of contract the Cubs are giving to Kimbrel
