I think the Mets will listen on Syndegaard and the Tigers on Boyd.

Syndegaard is not a former van Wagenen client. So no deep emotional bond.

Whichever team buys high on Boyd deserves whatever they end up getting.

Just throwing this out there because I have no idea. But remember how the Mets originally acquired Wheeler, it was for a rental of Beltran to the Giants. Anyone know how that trade lined up value wise at the time?

Indians might be listening on Bauer. Since they are in the playoff hunt they may have interest in a deal that sends them back someone like Gausman plus prospect(s).

Mainly that he's a nice MOR guy with a great stretch early in 2019 being billed as a controllable TOR guy by some folks.

Like every other situation, it's all about the value required to get Boyd, and it seems like the Tigers are holding onto him as some sort of controllable Ace. Hopefully they don't make the mistake of trying to build around him 2-3 years from now.

He seems like a very good target for the Yankees to cash in Frazier.

Wheeler was a Top 50 guy at the time, so probably a FV 50/55 guy. In present day dollars that's probably a value of ~$30M, maybe a bit less.

Beltran had produced 3.2 wins for the Mets so far that season, and was likely projected to produce another 1.5 wins plus the contender's premium.

The Giants were desperate to save a season being ruined by an injury to Posey, and they overpaid, but not egregiously so. Folks also need to look at what Wheeler became objectively...a single 4.2 win season and a couple 2.5 win seasons has been his main value to the Mets, so it's not like the Giants gave up John Smoltz for a rental.

Client of his agency though, I think. Thought I read that.

Knowing AA, you can adjust your trade expectations to whoever will bring back value with what we will be willing to offer. That list will include:

    Duvall
    Demeritte
    Allard
    Ender
    Fried
    Gausman
    (Possibly Folty)

Possibly a few lower guys like Jenista.

I don’t see a big trade out there that AA will be willing to do. I think he will follow the same path as last year’s deadline.

The Mets are too dumb, and will refuse to trade anyone when it really comes down to it.

Cleveland will be too close to a wild card to move anyone.

Detroit will ask for too much.

San Fran will ask for too much.

Toronto is the only team I see making a deal with us (and I consider that a long shot).

I disagree. He’s smart enough to realize our team is only 2 or 3 pieces from a legit WS contender. A starter like Wheeler and one or two reliever would greatly improve the team. The Mets will certainly trade Wheeler. He will not be very expensive. These deals can be done without sacrificing quality on the farm. The most likely scenario is AA busting out a deal no one see’s coming.

Wheeler and Smith would make this team pretty dangerous.

    Bowman's latest: https://www.mlb.com/braves/news/brav...trade-deadline

Two most interesting parts to me:

"Julio Teheran could return at a cost of $12 million, but it seems much more likely the club would attempt to re-sign Keuchel, whose appreciation for his new environment is strengthened by the presence of Brian McCann."

"Acquiring both Bumgarner and closer Will Smith from the Giants would come at a steep price that would definitely include Waters or Pache."

I can't imagine the part about Waters or Pache being necessary to get Bumgarner and Smith is true.

I have reason to believe Bowman is overestimating the trade value of Smith and Bumgarner.

The Braves have ~2 weeks to evaluate Folty and Gausman before they need to really start shopping if needed.

Bowman has proven beyond all doubt to be clueless.

Pache is untouchable, Bumgarner isn't that good, and we already know what Smith will cost.

It amazes how many MLB writers are completely unqualified to write about certain inner workings of the MLB. The idea that Bumgarner and Smith would definitely cost us a 60 FV outfield prospect is insane. Its sounds like something a casual fan would say just because they remember Bumgarner having that amazing postseason. They don't know his contract situation, his advanced metrics, the fact that we're on his NTC. The sad part is that Bowman is equipped with all that knowledge and still manages to have consistently terrible takes like that.

This is true. If Folty can get back to normal, we have a pretty great rotation. Guasman also getting back to normal would just be gravy on top.
