I truly cannot believe the Marlins traded Yelich for the meh package they did. What a horrible franchise.

It wasn't a horrible deal on the surface because Brinson was a top 20 prospect with 60fv. Their main problem is demanding an OF to replace Yelich when they should of been looking at multiple players a couple of years away to build up that farm. A major league ready OF does them nothing right now.

It's somewhat similar to a couple of deals Coppolella made. It always puzzled me why they took back Aybar in the Simmons' deal. Regardless of how the deal is turning out, the Triple J ranch wanted to give the impression they were serious about putting a veteran in the line-up. Flat-out stupid.

This is the essence of what I said at the beginning of the rebuild and mostly throughout.

The Braves made several very poor "appearance" trades and non-trades that hurt the overall rebuild. Fortunately, it didn't hurt bad enough to keep the team from where it is today.

I said from the beginning that:

    1. Markakis was a bad signing for a team going into a rebuild. I stand by that even though his 2018 season has been hugely helpful. The other three years tied up payroll and playing time that could/should have been used elsewhere.
    2. The ejection of bad contracts along with top talent, taking a more limited return. The Kimbrel trade was the worst offender.
    3. Not trading Teheran when you could get something for him.
    4. Not aggressively exploring a Freeman trade to at least see what you could get. Sure, he's a good player and had a fine 2018 and will probably be worth his pay as we move forward. BUT, if you could have gotten a big return early, it still would have given you years and money to find a replacement.
    5. Not playing for position within the draft. The worse you are, the better your draft position and the more money you have. Plus, you might get extra free picks courtesy of MLB. Plus you get more international money to spend. Plus, plus, plus. Those who don't play to the rules are not doing everything they can to ultimately win.

On the surface, the early returns of the moves done as a direct result of an intended rebuild have been pretty meh. Guys like Albies, Acuna and Camargo have been the bright spots of the now and they were not really part of that. I guess the best return so far has to be Folty. Swanson doesn't appear to be all that and Inciarte is up and down but certainly no star. The jury is still out on the draft picks but there are some pretty obvious misses (Allard) and some suspected ones at this point.

Rebuilds are always dangerous but kinda-sorta rebuilds are especially so. It may work out for the Braves, at least for a short while.

    I thought it sucked

Seemed like all jester did was go to pipeline and look up your number one guy. If you didn’t include number one it didn’t matter.

Coppy didn’t want aybar. Angels wanted us to take his salary. Coppy thought he’d play him for a couple of months and flip him.

What were the angels going to do with aybar and Simmons?

There is a huge difference in the Braves taking back an aging SS with one year of control and very little value and the Marlins taking back a very high value prospect with six years of control remaining.

Yes, this too. Aybar coming back probably did not change the prospect package at all.

I'd probably rather have the Cubs than the Brewers.

Rooting for Rockies and Brewers. Atleqst if they beat us I xan be happy for their fanbases going deep in the playoffs. The Cubs and Dodgers can **** off.

    +1000

You know MLB is scared to death of a Cubs/Dodgers Wild card game and want them both in the division series. While a wild card game with both of them would bring yuge ratings, I’m sure they would love both to meet in the NLCS.
There is also the fact that I believe the Dodgers have the best team in the NL and want them gone....
